Well, take away is different here in the United States, too. Take away as you've used it here is take out. A "take away" for us is what we glean from information, like the news, an op-ed, or speech, what we perceive was said by someone else. "My take away on famous FanStory writer Lisa May's article was...by Sally Law.
Your mouse in the house had a take away, and took away her appetite! Well done and well penned in New Zealand fashion. Splendid entry for the upcoming contest, too.

Folks are taking their own 'take-aways' from this poem. My cat just proved it was more fun to get 'fast food' on the run, despite the culinary treats laid out before her.

Outstanding tale that kept me intrigued then smiling. As a fan of Britbox and especially, Midsomer Murders, I am familiar with take-aways. Daily duties of my cat involve sleeping in my desk chair until I get on Fanstory.

Warming it up for you! It's nice for you and the cat to have each other's company. Thanks for your review Rikki.

Most Welcome.

I think out US cousins call them 'take outs'. I am throwing a five at this but you could have done this in your sleep. I'd go the mouse. Damn cat! - DJ

Grump grump grump... not a cat lover?

Very clever. We call them 'take-aways' in Australia too. I enjoyed this. Cats have some strange ideas about food don't they? Good luck in the contest. Although I really like writing flash fiction, I don't have the time to write anything for this.

Thanks for reviewing Judy. My cat had 3 plates of delicacies offered, because she is off her food right now... kidney malfunction setting in, so what does she do?... catches her own fast food.

Ungrateful wretch! Just a joke really. It is awful when our pets' health starts to deteriorate.
-
My lady of the house is reclining on her cushion looking very unhappy. I think she is on the slippery slide to her last days.
-
I'm sorry to hear that. You may have to make some hard decisions soon.
-
Unfortunately I am going away for 2 weeks in 2 weeks time, and she will get stressed in a boarding cattery. She's not eating now, so with stress as well she'll curl up her toes in my absence. And I'll still have to pay the fee for all she doesn't eat! But how bad does that sound..."I got my cat put down because I was going away on holiday!"
I had a line like that in my short story "What happens after abracadabra" and now it might be coming true!! Life imitates art.
-
If she is on the way out, it might be kinder to put her down before you go away and save her the stress. I'm sure you'll make the right decision.
-
I'm bolstering myself for that.

A very well-written seventy-five word flash fiction about the lady of the house who doesn't know what it takes to prepare a cuisine breakfast and thinks the only way is that it was bought.

I must say that this story had me going in one direction and then its last paragraph swung me in a whole different direction. Most amusing ending. Enjoyed!

I hope you enjoy your breakfast.

How charming to read your astute writing of the high and dignified aristocratic lady and her loveable cat. LisaMay, You have a way with words that settle the palate with a taste of desire (to learn). :) This is a very good entry for the 75 Words Flash Fiction.

The lady in the fur coat and the pussycat are one and the same! Her long-suffering owner is the diligent servant.
Comment from lyenochka
Usually, when a cat brings food, it's a gift for the owner who feeds him unoffensive dried pet food. Glad that the servant didn't feed the cat and the cat is still a hunter!
In the U.S., we call "take-aways" "take-out" so it would totally be understood.

Thanks for you review. My cat is too much of a hunter and refuses to wear her bell. I get far too many 'gifts' but I can't keep her inside all the time.
The review who claimed ignorance of the word does live in US, so he must live under a rock.

Ha, ha. I wasn't expecting the twist you served up. :)
It's not easy creating a self-contained story in so few words, but I thin you've achieved it with this piece. Well done, and good luck with the competition. :)

That cat often serves up twisted things... me too.
Thanks for your comments.

The cat has obviously missed the memo about how above such things she should be! (And I'm so glad you defined 'takeaways,' too. I was trying to imagine what it might be before I read your notes. It's such a better choice than 'fast food.' Way classier sounding. Perfect for this doyenne of decorum!)
Btw, one Thanksgiving, we heard our cat at the back entrance making a funny noise. When my mother opened the door, he stood there with a huge (live! Still KICKING!!) rodent in his mouth!. My mother, always so warm and welcoming, screamed and slammed the door on him at once. Hours later, after Thanksgiving was over and all our guests had left, we heard him at the back door again. This time, the rodent was headless. "Oh, are these YOUR leftovers for the fridge?" my mother asked.

Funny comment from your mother. Your cat was celebrating thanksgiving too... liked the food as fresh as possible.
I had no idea the word 'takeaways' was not a universal word until a reviewer rebuked me for his non-understanding. I am glad he pointed it out so i could add an author's note, but why don't folks just look it up if they don't know. They must be on a computer when they are reviewing. Knowledge is so easy to access these days.

It's true. I guess it's easier to bitch at people.

Aint that the truth.
