This is lovely. You have captured the spirit of Spring in a lovely young lass. I can picture in my mind the beauty of spring as you describe it. Best of luck in the contest.

A very well-written sonnet about the damsel that brings us Spring is always welcome when old man Winter is done with his winds and colds and leaves the scene.

Yes, indeed. Spring has finally arrived and I am hoping she will linger. Thank you for sharing my sonnet, Sandra. Rod

In my opinion, a lovely poem in its tribute to Spring - since the form is not one I am comfortable in assessing, I offer my critique as to the beauty of the verse, its even rhyme and stunning presentation. I wish the writer the best with this contest entry...

Hi Rod, this is a lovely sonnet. Perfect iambic pentameter and good abab rhyme. Good turn in the third stanza and I particularly like your final couplet. Such lovely content in this contest piece. Good luck - warm regards Dorothy

Thank you so much, Bill, for the high praise of DAMSEL SPRING and that wonderful galaxy of tears. She certainly does have a capricious nature this month around here. Rod

A vibrant description of a character that portrays a mysterious beauty of both life and somewhat fantasy. I can see the picture coming to life with each of her footsteps as you described. Beautifully expressed and presented.

Comment from Michele Harber
You do an excellent job, through metaphor and description, of painting vivid images, and the picture you chose fully fits Spring as you've described her. I particularly enjoyed that your poem touched on various senses, your comparison between Spring and Old Man Winter, and your simile comparing Spring to "a sea-bound sailor." Good luck in the contest.

Nicely done. And so true. We had a couple 80s temp - then rain - and it's promised for a week. Oh well. we prob. need it. For some reason, "old man winter was a surly guest" this year. Cold every night - piles of snow - had to get roof raked twice. Not global warming that's for sure.
Good job.

Wow! This is such a beautiful and lyrical sonnet! I loved the personification of Spring as a capricious young maiden. She certainly is unpredictable - warm and sunny on moment and cold and rainy the next. I'm hoping you'll do well in the contest!

Comment from Dolly'sPoems
I adore the sentiments in your sonnet Rod and I drifted into the wonderful spring you brought to my eyes. Line seven is not in meter, would suggest the following:
"A childlike laugh, delightedly she claps"
Love Dolly x
