We will enjoy her brief stay, mourn her leaving and wait anxiously await her return while suffering the abuse of old man Winter. You have crafted a very fine piece of poetry. Your offering is so good that I felt just the slightest pinch of jealousy. LOL. Congratulations.

So beautiful. You create such a vivid scenario and the reader, falls madly in love with this elusive vixen. Bravo, thanks for sharing this. Sonnet is the one poem that stymies me, but this beautiful poem makes want to give it a go. Cheers, j

This is a truly excellent sonnet in every respect. You have brought spring
to life through stunning imagery, personification, and simile. The rhyming
and metrical patterns are sustained throughout.

Ah this makes me remember "Spring Fever". A lovely tribute to Spring and it's revitalizing aura. Unlimited growth and beautiful colour surrounds us on glorious clear days under blue skies after long months of cold, snow and sleet. I like what your saying.

There are some lovely metaphors in your beautiful sonnet, Rod, it's well written and so easy to read. I love the spring, and your poem brings alive everything she epitomises. Sonnets are one of my favourite forms of poetry, and yours serves to remind me why. Well done and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xxx

Hello Poet, this is a lovely sonnet for the contest. You've made good use of iambic pentameter and I thought the form was spot on. Effective volta in the third quatrain and the closing couplet was a great conclusion for the ephemeral nature of life. Best to you in the contest.

Had to dig my heater out of the closet last night...where did that hussy go?
My granny used to accuse us of traipsin'...way back when...looks like an excellent sonnet to me.

"On scented breeze sweet damsel spring arrives and wends her way through fields down to the shore, See where each foot is placed a seedling thrives as bushes, trees leaf out and seagulls soar."

The association of spring with a damsel presents a dreamlike environment to envision and a perfect illustration of springs softness. A 'damsel' being a young unmarried woman seduces the mind which is the absolute posture of spring. The author has eloquently painted a picture impossible not to envision.

"This traipsing lass whose sleeveless stole flaps about her sanded feet has sparkling eyes, with childlike laugh, delightedly she claps her pale small hands to hush the magpies' cries."

Delightful comparison to the mischievous methods of spring breezes by the sea where suddenly the damsel brings a gush of warm wind as if partaking in personal play. Intriguing simile.

"Since old man winter was a surly guest, a vibrant carefree sprite's a welcome sight. Yet she must Rome; her spirit cannot rest. She'll brighten, stir our lives, then take swift flight."

Perfect definition of springs intent following in step with a damsels effect on life..... this breeze of compassionate warmth will revive us and leave us with renewed energy.

"Capricious spring came back to us today, but like a sea-bound sailor will not stay."

This is a very well prepared work embracing all the energy a literary work deserves. Thank you for sharing this and please keep writing.

This is a beautiful sonnet about the coming of spring. To make her a lovely damsel seems so appropriate to me, but the most creative touch, one I particularly loved, was in line three ... See where each foot is placed a seedling thrives. Wow! Of course, the rest of the poem did not disappoint either. It is lovely from start to finish. I think there should be a comma after sailor, in the last line, but not sure. I loved this poem. Thank you for the delight. MM

Hi, Rod. Super descriptions in this poetry:

"This traipsing lass whose sleeveless stola flaps
about her sandaled feet has sparkling eyes.
With childlike laugh, delightedly she claps
her pale small hands to hush the magpies' cries."

Bravo! good to see you posting again. :) Bob
