our own choice is our own condemn of our past. what we condemn is the mistakes from our past, present, and future. the future is to progress, progress to a unmistakable choice. your poem was well written and constructed. thanks for the read. "your so vein" means mood or humor.

It's really unnecessary for us to keep score in life because there are always so many others who are willing, eager and able to do it for us.
Make one wrong move and they're on like like a fly on sh...well, you know.
Good luck in the Nonet contest, Yvette.

So true. We will never progress on the road to life if we keep looking backwards. Once lessons are learned, we need to move on and keep looking ahead. Otherwise, we're stuck in a rut...forever. That would be a waste of a life. Thanks for sharing these words of wisdom in poetic fashion.

As a Nonet Poem, this is excellent, the presentation is nice too:-) This speaks to a larger issue, one that our society is divided on and grappling with. As a philosophical comment turning ones back on history negates the idea of learning from it. If you don't learn from history you will be condemned to repeat the mistakes of.... As a course of action I am all for starting anew; armed with the knowledge of the past, that makes our future an informed choice. Nice job, and good luck.

I'm all for remembering so that mistakes aren't repeated, what I'm not in favor of is recalling wounds of the past and reopening them to cause division and hurt in the present... and that seems to be what many louder voices are aiming for these days. And it sickens and saddens me to see its effects on my students and other younger people around me... :) :) Thanx for your review on this one, Stephen -- I do so appreciate hearing your viewpoint and input, sir!! ;) :) Take care and have a wonderful weekend out there! ;) ;) Yvette

I am really glad you responded. I wanted to ask if the poem wasn't partially inspired by your experience as a teacher. I had the feeling it was. I am also saddened by the divisiveness fomented by those who dangle a carrot and wield a stick. It is the unhealed wounds that allows those voices to infect and fester what should be a healthy body and mind. Take it easy YM:-)

-Very nice image and
presentation, Yvette.
-Your note is appreciated.
-The syllable count and
formatting are good,
-A good topic choice.
-I agree we shouldn't
be a slave to our past,
but it also helps us
see where we came from,
and hopefully not repeat mistakes.
-We do have to be our
own person, however, and
not "keep score."
-Good luck in the contest.

Wonderful to remember where we've been as long as we don't live there or carry forward or seek to re-open all the scars from then. :) ;) Thanx for your wonderful, detailed review as always, Pam -- you take good care out there, ma'am, and have a wonderful weekend! ;) ;) Yvette

You know, My Darling Sister of the South... This would be the perfect prequel to this sort of epic poem I've been working on, on and off, for a while now... called, The Sins of the Fathers... you can guess what it's about. LOL, I love the message... Mine is a little harsher... kind of says, yeah... it was all wrong and pretty inexcusable...but it was over 200 years ago. Another time. We can't keep holding each other responsible for what those who came before us did. Where does it stop? Do we hold the kid in kindergarten responsible for the murder his strung-out daddy committed during that robbery that landed him in prison for life? I hope not. That kid could grow up to cure Cancer if we give him or her a chance. ... Look at me... sick a few days and now I'm babbly with a snoring man next to me.
I've started picking Ashley up from school, got a couple of new pictures... will do something new soon. :)
So, here's one... I heard, through the grapevine, that my niece was going to be induced today if she hadn't delivered yet, which I guess she hadn't so I guess she was. Anyway, nobody bothered to tell me... as I said, I had to hear it through the grapevine. So, tonight, around 9ish, I call my sister up in Vermont, where my parents are... I know they'll get the news if there's any... and she tells me that the baby was born (a girl, 7.3 21") about 2 hours earlier. I'm thinking our other sister called them, she couldn't call me? Well, Can't pick your family. I'll do a welcome poem for the new one anyway... even though I don't even know she's here yet!!! lol

So, first, I cannot wait for your poem to come out -- this nonet was borne of my frustration with so many 'loud mouths' out there who are, just like you say, rehashing shite that we had moved on from and now it's back and creating riffs where there were none... God, it is just so damn frustrating when I hear all the drivel!! Sorry, guess I, too, tend to get a little worked up .... sigh.
Second - hooray for your working on 'Summer of Ashley in Verse'... looking so very forward to seeing the second one! :) ;)
Third -- WTH? She's your sister and couldn't bother? Well, I know my relationship with my sister is a bit strained... only because of lots of time and lots of distance, we've grown 'apart'. But there are just some things that are 'expected' and 'valuable' to our relationship and I would think the birth of a grand-baby (your grand niece) would be one of those things....? Well, just remember, if/when she does call, be excited and congratulate here and ask for all the details you probably already have.... give her a day, and, if she doesn't call, go out and buy a card and a cute gift from her Great Aunt Susan and put them in the mail with wonderfully cheerful greetings! ;) No since being 'hurt' from afar... it just breeds more 'hurt'... :) ;) Of course, that's this crazy blonde's advice so, take it for what it's worth... LOL! :) ;)
fourth - Take good care of you and keep that smile on your face and I'm sure Ashely will help you reinforce it! ;) ;) Yvette :)

Afar??? She's less than 5 minutes away!
reply by the author on 17-May-2019
Okay... I had NO idea!! That really is unfathomable!! Once again, I ask...this time with more incredulity...WTH? You guys have "issues "?
reply by susand3022 on 18-May-2019
No kidding... I'm so done hoping that she'll just get the hell over whatever the F*** it is with her. Hoping she'll talk to me... I still have no clue what all this is about. She's always been the drama queen in the family but this is ridiculous. I'm cutting my losses, tired of hoping, just to have my heart broken by her... and now her kids too??? I'm clearly "Undesirable #1" when it comes to them. Why, I may never know. But I can't do this anymore. This is my third day of tears... they won't stop. It may have been easier if they were all in a bus that was taken out by a semi.

I love the message being conveyed here, Yvette. We can use our history to help us to avoid certain pitfalls. That, I think, would be constructive, instead of to keep score, for negative reasons.

Thank you so very much, Linda, for your wonderful comments on this one ... I just get so very tired of what's on the airwaves and such - people that just will not move forward - and I'm watching it have an effect on my students... I just hate it! :) I try so hard to live what I tried to state here... :) ;) Yvette
