And don't we wish we still had them with us, Rhonda! They are the ones that offer unconditional love from the moment we took our first breath, until they took their last. Your poem is excellent, you had the foresight in your early years to appreciate what you had. Well done, my friend. :) Sandra xxx

Thank you, Sandra! I love the way you put that, from our first breath until their last. I was the only one in the room with my mother when she took her last. I didn?t realize the significance of that until now.

We never do at the time. It's afterwards when we have more time to think that it comes to us, I'm sorry for your loss, m friend, I know how it feels, xxx
-
Thank you. It takes someone who has experienced such loss to truly understand!

I like how you talk about children with this poem. Children do need their mothers. A very nice and decent poem. I like this poem. No grammatical errors. Good luck in the contest

This is an excellent rhyme and tribute to your mother. What a mother's day gift. I certainly can't see any re-work needed on this. You have said
it all. This is an excellent entry for any poem contest, very well done.

A good mother's love and tenderness will resonate within a child throughout its life. they will carry it with them until the day they die and it will help guide them through their lives. Nice poem !

Thank you so much. That was certainly the message I was trying to convey!

The poem turned out to contain much truth because of the mother of that eighteen year old author, because the best mothers warn their kids that Disney and fairy tales and most books and movies are wistful fiction...
excellent post

I don't doubt that you were an innocent 18-year-old girl at the time that you wrote this poem. However, the words expressed seem to come from a most mature person. Your poem would be appreciated by people of any age. Best wishes.

Thank you for your insightful remarks. I was rather mature for an 18-year-old, or at least for a fleeting moment! Thanks for reading and responding,
Rhonda

Rhonda, being 18 years old has its moments, I wish I could remember them. You are most welcome.

Rhonda, this work brought tears to my eyes. And to think , you found it again after years and years.. and most probably when you needed it. A wonderful verse of love and appreciation for 18 years of age..

Thank you so much for the sincere review. I did really need to find that homemade card and poem. It sort of reminds me of that writing prompt we often get about the discovered note...

What a lovely thing to find: to know that your teenaged poem was treasured by your Mama for all those years. The poem itself is heartfelt and contains some wonderfully poignant imagery. The mono-rhyme is carried through very well.

Thank you for your wonderful review, Lisa. I was quite surprised to find the paper nestled in among her treasures. It was a bittersweet find.
Take care,
Rhonda

I wonder what you have tucked away that your kids will find.
-
That?s a darn good question. Maybe we should do a writing prompt on it... letters to our children...
-
Your suggestion of a writing prompt sounds like it could appeal to many, either to enter or to read.

What a nice thing to write for your mom - for sure she saved it forever. Don't know I ever waxed that eloquent to my mom - wish I had - but we are not the kind who share emotions. Mom was a staunch Finnish lady - but she sure prayed us through a lot - and loved us.
good job.

Thank you for the wonderful review. My mother had her moments when she was rough around the edges, but mostly we were very close, and she loved her children!
Take care,
Rhonda

Thank you for sharing this. It is so true - nothing at all like
a mother's love.
When we can't count on anyone else, we can count on their love and the
warmth of home.
Happy Mother's day to you.
