I'm going to give you a 6 as anytime we honor the fallen it is beyond excellent. I have a cousin who drove a tank in VietNam, he still suffers from PTSD and has injuries that grew worst with time. Then he came home and was spit on at the airport for serving his country. We can be pretty stupid at times. He has written his story. He posted it on Facebook and it really helped with his PTSD. Thank you for honoring our men. My brothers were in the Navy one at the beginning of VietNam one at the end. His boat picked up several refugees fleeing the country. Very sad. A little boy became his buddy and followed him everywhere and always called him Joe, I guess they called America Soldiers Joe.

Hello Earl, You certainly hit the writing prompt nail on the head! What a great job you did. I think you took an approach unlike anyone else by mentioning lots of different "conflicts" (must be pc!)
The one thing this poem brought home to me is that no matter what we say about how much we all hate fighting... we don't stop. Not even the really harsh, brutal, bloody, PTSD causing type. Even the thought of Absolute Power, or any power, Corrupts Absolutely.

"Lest We Forget" is an excellent tribute to our military written from the heart which is always a good way to write. Most of my uncles and some of my cousins served in the military - one uncle and one cousin didn't make it home so this is an especially touching poem for me.

You did well. I was raised on a military base and arsenal at the time with my parents making ordnance and two brothers fighting for the cause. My oldest stormed the beach at Normandy, the other the beaches of Guam. I remember very well. Your poem is good.

This is a good poem and very patriotic. We have what is called Chelsea pensioners, all veterans, and every year a group march to the palace. Good poem. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

I don't think there is a right or wrong way to write poetry from the heart, it just pours out as it should.
