I can see why this entry won the votes. It was a beautiful love poem and you pulled from something that people who had a father they loved - they could understand this bond. Even though my dad and I were not this close, I had love for my father in the same ways that you do. So I read this and it brought tears to my eyes thinking that you are a lucky one who had a dad that gave you something special and tangible to remember him and the bond you shared. Deep down inside I envy that. I wished that could have been what I had with my father. It was very precious to me that you shared it and even better that you won! Cheers, Fonda

Hi Fonda, I very much appreciate your review. Yes, I was indeed lucky to get adopted out from a crazy background into a loving home. I moved my Dad over from Australia to live with me here in NZ in his later years and he brought lots of stuff with him, so I have plenty of reminders of his presence around my home, which keeps his memory close to me.

This is a really lovely tribute to your father. Father/daughter relationships are very, very special. I particularly like the stanza beginning 'around my neck' with the 'molten moon' and 'droplet of pearl'. Good luck in the contest.

Love this poem! You show us the strong and steadfast love of your father even when he suffered loss. (Yes, Death's a thief!) and somehow both of you survived and he continued to show his love for you and you for him. (even putting up with his cat!)

This is a solid entry into the Love prompt. There is something so special about a treasured gift from Daddy. This is a beautiful tribute to a father. These are my favorite lines; all fragments made an honest whole (great concise thought) -- a molten moon, droplet of pearl (very smooth and descriptive). I love this picture as well. Nice job, Lisa! I feel so much sorrow for those having afflictions like dementia and Alzheimer's Disease because it's one thing to take a material thing away from someone that means a lot to them. But, it's something else altogether to be robbed of something priceless--our memories.

Dad seemed happy enough, he always treated everything with equanimity, but I was robbed of my Dad and did not feel calm about that at all.
