Wow! A double twist at the end. This reminded me of the song Ringo, until the daughter shot Black heart, then I was reminded of the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Your poem rhymed, made sense, and entertained. No offense but I hope you take second place in the contest.

Oh, I just love your poetic skill and unique format of your rhyming couplets (it's yours, the way you've used it in other series of the kiddos and I love it!!) applied to this 'western saga'!! :) It's great offering for the contest and I can almost hear the music of some of those older westerns playing during the chase and the gunfire! :) ;) Great job! :) ;) Yvette

This has all the elements of a classic western: the rancher laying claim to land and pursuing his dream until it almost dies. It's redeemed by a good woman's love. Then Part 2-the arrival of the villain who challenges our rancher. The classic showdown. Great twist as the daughter saves her father's life. Second surprise--learning the so-called villain is the rancher's brother. Good triumphs over evil in the Old West. A fun read although I will never be a fan of AABB rhyming.

Boogienights, everything you write is magical. This was such an engrossing tale, it didn't even seem like a poem. It flowed beautifully and was riveting from start to finish. Awesome work. xo

I'm glad I still had six stars to give! This read like a dramatic, interesting short story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. After I read it, I had to go back and see if it Rhymes. It was so interesting that I didn't notice the rhyme, and for me that's always a plus, because it means your word choices engaging and draws me in and I don't notice some of the structure of it. Thank you for sharing. Obviously, I love this!
