Congratulations for the first place win on this spectacularly written story Rachelle. I laughed all the way through, and deeply regretted my non-vote. I would have certainly voted for it if I'd gotten here in time, but so many days, I don't get to FanStory at all, and then I miss things like contests I wanted to enter or vote in. So... you have my virtual vote and my hearty congratulations for the win. I love how you write!

that is so cute. You told the story well. I love "the full arm Tchaikovsky" bit, and I wonder if you got other readers thinking back to their fathers and their driving lesson experiences, as you did me. I remember my younger sister knocked down a brick post, driving into our driveway and our father laughed! He had a strange sense of humor.
This was a very enjoyable read.

Wow, your father DID have a strange sense of humor! My father never would have talked to me again!! (and it's not that he didn't love me; he just had this need for all his duckies to be in a row at all times.)

I love this vignette about your driving history. Thanks for that. And for the delightful review, as well.

Hah - this is an engaging work of fiction that sounds inspired by something close to home. Your descriptions are really nice. The landscape, to start, but then the pallor-deprived father. Wonderful!

Thank you for sharing this.
Good luck in the contest.

My stepfather wouldn't even consider taking me out. I still can't drive. I enjoyed this; it was entertaining and will have resonated with a lot of people, I suspect. Good luck in the contest.

Wow, Sarkems. Do you live in a city and not need that skill? I have a couple of nieces who don't drive, either. At least today there's Uber; that makes getting from Point A to Point B easier.

At any rate, thank you for the review and and also the vignette about your life. I appreciate both!

Nope. I live on a tiny island with no cars on it. When I did live on the mainland, I used buses and trains. My husband doesn't drive, either.

This is a great entry in the contest. I also entered this contest, so the best I can do is hope you come in second, but I won't mind if you win. You deserve it.

Good job on the topic. I like that you turned it into a driving lesson bit. It works. I like the contrast between the parent teaching her and later, when she's a mother, her way of dealing with her daughter. Good luck in the contest.

Nothing can make a mother or father go over the edge faster than teaching a child to drive. In Louisiana, parents don't have this option, children must attend a state-approved driving school.
Your story is well written and insightful.

What's with the back seat driver? Surely your father (and now you) should be quivering in the trunk?? (we call it the boot in NZ... see how I am adapting!) I predict that this will net you another win. It's good... well now, i guess with 5 stars that pronounces it excellent.

This is such a fun post. I think every parent has been through this and isn't it just the most harrowing experience? Maybe it isn't much for the kids either. I understand about the need to 'play it out' when you get home. Good luck in the contest.

    Thanks, Judy.
Yes, you're right, it's one of those parental moments to be grateful to say you've lived through.
