This is a very nice poem about the motherly love given by your mother over the years to her children.
I looked up "splay" and it is, spread or expand.
A mother's instinct tells her these things-
to nurse, to protect and to nurture their children through life. In other words, be by their side through thick and thin. To some people the loss of your mother can be the end because some depends entirely on their mother for support.
Congratulations on being recognized and receiving All Times Best and good luck with your poem.

The loss of life is palpable in this perfect poem. You write of a son losing his mother. I write of a mother losing her younger son. We both hold guilt for not being there in the end for them...and how that day I should with you walked...I hope that as You end with...sail on ma...your guilt does sail away as well. Poignant

Your title and picture selection captured my attention. I admired your tribute to your mother in these rhymed couplets. Your vivid, image-laden, third stanza is quite memorable. Yes, may our dear mothers rest in peace- Joan

As always a masterful piece that weaves a tale so dear. The third stanza was especially uniquely worded-"pain she wore like a sequined gown." Now that, my firnd is poetry. And thanks for writing for all of our dear Mothers. Mine is 88 and so very sweet.

This is a touchingly beautiful poem, full of emotion and written with gentle eloquence. I loved every line, but I think the one that will stay with me forever is this powerful image: "For that breast once loaned, so returned, when on mine your head I lay." How creative you are! This was lovely in all the ways a poem needs to be, and I very much enjoyed reading it. ~MM

Thank you, dear MissMerri. I know you didn't mean to put 4 stars on this, but even if you did, I would be just as happy, as always good to hear from you.
    You have a great day.
    And thank you, once again.
    My best wishes.

This is beautiful and heartbreaking. Each line has such an incredibly deep and insightful meaning that takes my breath away. Through your words, she comes alive. I feel like she is here with me, smiling at the words and saying, "That's my son."

Your love for her is so clear. This is a true work of art.

This is beautifully written and sang to my grieving heart. My dear mother passed away 328 days ago, following an accident. Likewise I didn't get to say goodbye and I just can't get used to the idea that it's final. You've been well recognised for your work. It is simply lovely.PM

Yes, it is strange how many things bind us, even in death, it makes us understand how vulnerable and, indeed, human we are, despite our so many indifference.
Thank you so muc, also for the six stars.
    My best wishes.

Hello RG,
A heartfelt poem, beautifully written as only a word master can.
Wonderful use of poetry to express the deep emotional bond
of mother and child and the sadness of departure.
I lost my mother in a similar way, didn't get there in time.
It never leaves you.
Best wishes to you, my friend.
Robert

Thinking of you at the loss of your mother. Mother's are precious, especially to sons. We only have one turn and when they pass, part of our hearts pass with them. Take heart, you will see her again. XX Kay.
