I am enjoying this...very much. Of course, I am hooked and nothing else is getting done around my apartment. But that is okay. I can ignore comfortably ignore cleaning and other responsibilities for a long time. :-)

Oh, you are so very good for me today, Janet -- I was just starting to get a bit 'down' and you have just perked my pen right up - THANK YOU!! ;)

I know this is only a fantasy fictional story but I'm so glad that Maggie finally found conditions safer for herself. What a wonderful world it will be when the news finally arrives at The Refuge that Maggie was found.

There no need to answer all my reviews. I am catching up on this story and making a little money. The story is very interesting.

Better than I thought. I grew up in Alabama!

So Maggie is on her way.

Two small suggestions for your consideration:

Maggie was determined to keep a handle on the excitement that tried to build inside of her - delete 'of'

Rita Bee you really are nuts, girl! - comma after 'Bee'

Best wishes
Judy

Well written and very accurate of life in the south. I am a southerner born and bred and wear it well. I love real grits, but have grown allergic to corn and can no longer have them. Sigh. A southern staple. (Possibly causes insanity.)

My favorite description were the felines lined up on the window sill for an evening show. I can literally picture them, hearing their meows.

My only critique is the abundance of characters. Catching up with your story is involved, but I am going to stay with it.

All my best with your new novel and endeavors. Sorry I am so late joining in.
Sal :+)

Thank you for the review, Sally -- and, yes, my books are loaded with characters...spread out in the beginning but slowly they will all meld into one (or close to one) scene. I like the variety and the spice it provides... please don't feel obligated, although I think you will find a number of the characters likeable and entertaining once you get to know them... and who knows what relationships might develop? :) ;) LOL! :) Take care. :)

I'm loving this chapter. Lars is just plain wrong. I wonder how many FanStory members live in Alabama. I know of 4, but one of them may not be active anymore.
Anyway, this book is going to give the South the reputation that it deserves.
Worrier that I am, I could not figure out how Maggie could quit the job that easily. Seems like it was pretty simple. I'm glad there was no drama or anger involved. And I'm still loving the cats. I hope that they make their way to Alabama. I hope Maggie brings some of her other friends as well. I look forward to seeing who shows up in the new setting.
Hope you are on Spring break with lots of time to write.

Good Morning, MQ! :) Thanx so much for your lovely stars -- I just got up this morning and posted the next part. :) I think Maggie's just relieved that she won't be dependent on a drinking boss any more... remember, she was going to be looking for another job anyway. Also, this next part does show that she will find it hard letting others go... :) ;) As I said yesterday.... SEVEN WEEKS.... I can do this! You know, it gets harder each year with the 'changing atmosphere and attitude'.....I don't really know how much longer the trade off will be worth it...sigh. Next year EVERY one of my boys will be in a different place, so we'll see how the year goes... :) ;) In the meantime, this story will be my 'escape'! :) ;) Take care down there -- rain here this morning...ugh. :) ;) Yvette

So I take it you lawyer graduate got a job. I'm glad. So many don't have them before they graduate. That's why my son got his LLM and then had to move to New York City.
This packing of my daughter is getting me down. She won't be coming back to Birmingham to stay.

Find out this week on a set of interviews from a couple of week's ago ... it's a DA's office and that's where he needs to be: prosecuting....for many reasons. ;) :) ;) So, keep him in your prayers if you have room...
And I know this move is hard on you mom...it'll be hard on her too, but only when she's been away for a while (least that's how I was). I'm just getting over my being 'bummed' about my mom and dad's move last Fall....they moved away from here when my two oldest were babies and the plan was they would always be back after retirement, etc. -- at least that's what they had always said. Well, they decided to move back 'home' (Louisiana) instead to be close to their siblings. I get it, but it just really hadn't even been on my radar, especially with how they just kept talking over the years with all of our long trips to visit as the boys grew up, and when they announced it last year, it was just a hard one to take. Was kinda pissed at first cuz I know it's gonna been something for David and I to deal with once it comes to those issues we all know are down the road [neither my brother or sister are the responsible ones...sigh], but it is what it is and I don't want to be mad. Anyway, you don't want to hear this crap...
You take care of your little girl as long as you have her -- your love can stretch to Texas, heck , there's only two states and lots of big airports in between! :) ;) Take care! :) Yvette

the last sentence is SO profound. heheh. I'm really enjoying your story, Vette it is a great break and I do look forward to each installment. so it seems I take a few days off and everything is changed on this site. it's kind of surreal. I must ask you a deeply personal and potentially reality-altering question. you don't have to answer right away, take the weekend. I am really hesitant to broach an issue of this import so suddenly, but here it goes...............will you be my buddy, dude?.........................meeshu

Oh, shit! Oh,shit! Was I supposed to ask....we-e-e-ellll, the blonde went and did it again: yours was the first name on my long list of three! :) :) And, yes, please, since you seem to have followed proper protocol and would still have the nutty blonde down here in the South (who seems to have cast protocol to the wind...not the same as spitting or something else there, but .... ugh!), I would be humbled and honored to be on your buddy list. Of course, this doesn't mean I would like to pick out curtains or anything with you and Cyndy...LOL! LOL! :) :) And, I suppose I should ask: is it okay that you're already first on mine...? :) :) wink-wink, nudge-nudge.... :)
You both take care out there and hope the books going well! :) ;) Yvette

A very well-written chapter, we all wish for a better chance in life that may come our way when we least expect it to happen, especially when our life is hard and unpleasant working conditions.

Questions and questions I have Yvette. First one... I read and reread but do not understand this, "Just as you knew Ms. Son in the interim between her and yourself." I couldn't process it. Now for the next question... Eduardo and Sully are ghost? Invisible? It's a good story that is why I ask. :) ;) Can't wait for the next one.

Think back to the conversation where Stephen was filling Geoffrey in on Maggie's past -- Marguerite A. Son was the name Dorothy gave her while Maggie lived with her and Addy. I went ahead and added it to the character listing at the bottom so that others might not wind up in your quandary -- thanx for the heads up! :) ;) And so far as Eduardo and Sully are concerned.....well, let's just say you are one of the few people to be stepping onto the right track... :) ;) Thanx so much, Jose, for keeping up with Maggie and the gang! :) ;) Yvette
