This news was just so, so shocking. I think your feelings about the atrocity have resulted in a very moving poem which highlights some of the problems facing every part of the world at the moment.

Devastating and horrifying incident in New Zealand. Praying for all the people and families affected. There should be more humanity in this world. Your concluding lines of this poem stands out the best : "why can't we worship together in the name of God's love?" So well written.

This is a superb response to the horrible massacre in New Zealand. The Internet has sadly become a perfect platform for hate to be spewed and not learned about until too late.

A powerful poem that clearly states the outrage.

I am so sorry for the loss of all the lives and the innocence lost, LiasMay. It is a scary world we all have to share. I like your reasoning in the last 2 lines. those lines sum it up nicely. Thanks for sharing and caring. Jan

Peaceful NZ has now joined the horrors of other places that have to endure these atrocities.
    Thanks for your review.

There is no way to make the immigrants leave their Gods behind, and they set themselves apart (and above?) others and the hounds of Hell are set free.. This is a frequent thing in the great melting pot of America, and it is a shame it came to New Zealand...excellent verses...

Yes, it appears we have joined the mainstream of hate atrocities now. This is not NZ.
We are an inclusive, peace-loving society. This has been inflicted on us by someone from outside our community, not from within. People of any faith should be free to worship in their own way without impact on or from others, and that has been the case in NZ until now, when an outsider's warped view has had devastating consequences. This will make Kiwis stronger in their commitment to have an inclusive society. White supremacy, Islamophobia and mass shootings are alien to our make-up. We are small enough to hopefully be able to hold firm to our values of inclusivity and diversity. We are one.

So true. We grieve with you. It's not for anyone to judge another's faith. Only God is Judge and He has shown all compassion and love. Will pray for Christchurch.

A very well-written heartfelt poem about the horrible hate crime shooting. It is hard to believe there are still people that have so much hate in their hearts that they cannot even respect the holy places of others.

It is just beyond belief... and I guess that is what it comes down to: they have no respect for true belief.
    Thanks for reviewing.

I loved your lines about blood on prayer mats and all holy books being tarnished by an attack on one religion. There is so much hate-mongering in the world (and our USA president is one of the leading mongers). And while it won't be possible to point to any one bigoted statement or Facebook post and say "That one's responsible", there can be no doubt that the culture created by the sum total of those statements and posts is responsible for acts like these. Tragic, and your poem speaks to the magnitude of the tragedy, and the stupidity of it. Well said.

Peace.

Thank you so much for this generous support, Mark. Facebook and the wildfire of woes fanned by the Internet have a lot to answer for. Your politics and mine coincide. You might get some entertainment out of a couple of my postings from last month on my portfolio: The Sick Chickens Have Arrived, and The Potentate Plummets.

A beautiful poem you have penned here, Debra, that points out so much of the politics and violence around the world in the name of religion .... and we wonder why the younger generation is turning its back...? Thanx for sharing... Yvette :)

Many of our younger people are addicted to Facebook and the Internet wherein lies a lot of misguided emotions fostering avarice, inequality and hate.
(I forgive you for calling me Debra. You probably reviewed something of hers just before this!)

I am out of sixes, or I would have given you one. Hearing about this carnage in New Zealand was devastating. This is such an evocative, sad poem, that captures how the hate is spreading over the Earth, urged on by leaders who only want power and money. As an American, I am sickened every day about what is happening her and how this mindset is spreading like a plague all over the world.

Thanks for thinking it justified a 6. I appreciate your comments and agree utterly with them. It feels so horrible to realise that peaceful little NZ is now no longer spared from the woes of the world. It certainly is a plague. It is a weird coincidence, but Christchurch this past fortnight has had a measles epidemic too... almost an analogy of disease spreading just like hatred and violence.
