Whoever thought even ten years ago that we would be talking to a cylinder. When we were kids we spoke into a cylinder. That was the cans connected with a long string which had to be stretched very taut. I have a friend who has an Alexa and she spends a lot of time yelling at her. It's amusing. However, if you've read any of the story the writer on this site Beas Peas has been working on, you will want to research the future of BOTS. If the workings of Alexis were placed inside a human-looking woman, you would have a perfect BOT. They are now talking about BOTS having relationships with humans, more intense than we already do with Alexa. This is well written.

thanks. I'm getting too old for all these talking electronics. I had one response from a gal from GA (my home state) and she said Alexa doesn't understand southern. I'm beginning to think she's right.
BOT, huh? Definitely wouldn't want one of those.
Thanks for reading my piece and for your comments.

Oh, I so wish I hadn't used my last six star rating a couple of hours ago. This is so deserving of one!

We don't have Alexa, we have Google Home, and I have to say, I love flirting with her. She never slaps, like a real human female would. She's also surprisingly funny with her responses.

Wonderful humour, as you take us through your increasing frustration with your virtual buddy. Thanks for sharing.

    thanks so much.
Flirting with your Google Home - now that makes me smile! I'm glad she's funny. Maybe she could give Alexa some lessons.
Don't know what kinds of music you like, but one I've heard lately I'm probably exasperating Alexa by requesting it too much is a country song called People are Crazy. I wonder if your Google home will play it?

Most likely Google Home won't play it, as I don't fork out cash to allow me to request specific songs. I did find it on youtube though - easy on the ears, and I can even agree with 2/3 of it :)

I just like the music - I don't relate to it. glad you liked it.

Thank you so much! You're in Oregan, so yep, I imagine cold and damp? It's been delightful here, sunny and light sweater weather - at least for the present. One never knows.
Maybe stay warm with a good book by the fire? Is that possible?
    Thanks again,

I had to laugh at this one, it sounds exactly like that in my household. There are so many commands that Alex 'I don't know that one' and have you trying to say it in a different way. These Alexa's are amazing, but as you say, sometimes it get's you so mad. I love the light at the end meaning you are forgiven! LOL. :) Sandra xxx

    Thank you.
Seems she's back to pulling her same old stunts.
It's really pitiful when you yell at a machine.
I need to work on my temper/patience.
    Thanks again for your comments.

AAAAaaaaaHAHAHAHAHA!!! I am roaring with laughter! This is the best full-belly laugh I've had in a long time. You're kinda mean, though, 'cause poor ol' Alexa WAS exhibiting signs of a brain, wouldn't you say? (ROFL= "People Are Crazy")

OMG. Perfection. You take my last six this week!

Well, THANK YOU so much for your enthusiasm and for the lovely 6!!!!
    You have made my day!
Guess I'll have to apologize to Alexa and give her credit where credit's due. (after I wring her cylindrical neck!)

This made me smile and these machines seem to have a mind of their own, I heard a news story about a similar machine sending an email to the wrong person and it they were complaining about that person to someone else! A friendship was lost because of one of these machines! He he he, no secrets are kept under wraps with computers around! They sometimes get their wires crossed! I think I would rather get up from my seat and put a physical record on the record player! He he he, an amusing write, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

yes, you're right. The one good thing about using her for music, is if you're in bed reading and ask her to play a collection of something like Yo-Yo Ma and Ennio Marricone ( from their CD) you can listen and when you get sleepy you just say, Alexa, stop. but for fun stuff she can tell you the temp, and answer some informative questions. But sometimes I could strangle her. Some people say she's Big Brother. that's a bit scary.
    Thanks for your comments!

I am quite sure I don't need or want an Alexa. I laughed reading your story as I've heard similar tales of woe before. Sometimes you would swear these things had 'intelligence' and were just being difficult.

yep, sometimes she can be a bit of a pain, but she comes in handy at times. Have heard that she is Big Brother - but don't think she'll learn anything from me. :)

So funny, full of humor. I laughed out loud at some parts. I don't have an Alexa and don't want one, thank you. I can't control the living beings in my household; what makes me think I'd have any luck with an electronic one? Thanks so much for sharing and for the laughs.

And thank YOU, Stephanie. I'm glad I gave you a laugh.
Living alone, I talk to everything, the fridge, TV, my hair, now I have something that answers me and I can get mad at her and she doesn't give me any flack. pretty nifty, although I may strangle her one of these days. :)

That is such an intense battle with Alexa, I know eactly what you mean, here my son has one, which I get the same reactions as you. Very down to earth written story.

This is really a fun read. I have had no dealings with the rather temperamental Alexa. After this I don't know if I'd want to. Better to have some CDs handy. At least she seems to be trying and sometimes she does what you want. Funny about your command "More by Chris Botti" and Alexa responds that she doesn't know that one. It's so humiliating when electronic gadgets get the better of you. Very enjoyable. judi

Thanks, Judi. Yep, she can make me feel pretty dumb at times. Next, "they" will make a model that really does have a brain.
The good thing about her is if you are in bed or busy doing something and you want her off, you just say, "Alexa, off." No movement required.

You're very welcome. I don't think I'm missing much with Alexa. judi
