This is a beautiful acrostic poem! I view it as an act of common sense. Not only does it help society to free others and forgive, it helps the one forgiving to realize he's not all powerful, and to view others as people, not objects.

I was not aware of the true meaning of jubilee, I always thought it meant a celebration of sorts. That's the cool thing on here, you always learn something. Good luck in the contest.

Oh, even your overall presentation of your write is uplifting and joyful, Bill! :) ;) From the beginning, there's just something about the way you phrase things "a year to end all debts and sin" .... " unshackled legs return to dance" .... "espy the freedom flag unfurled" .... it's just, I don't know .. jubilant!! :) ;) Thank you for sharing and best of luck in the contest (this should do well!)! :) Yvette

I would never have guessed that you would be aware of this and for this I apologize. It was wrong of me to foolishly assume that you would possess no bible knowledge. This is a wonderful work, done with precise attention to style form and content.

What a great thought - both in this world but really in the spiritual realm to be free of all debt and embrace Jubilee! Wonderful acrostic poem, Bill!

"Justice calls for freedoms chance," (freedom's)

Hey Bill. Love this. It works on every level. Too often, acrostics manifest as a cerebral exercise but this is passionate and potent. I feel privileged to be reading your work again. Cheers - DJ

Excellent work, and great one for the contest. You have the added attraction of rhyme, too, which works well. I didn't know about this tradition. Debt forgiveness sounds wonderful, but I don't have much debt to be forgiven, fortunately. New beginnings are always welcome. It makes one wonder, though, if given this new opportunity, would people do the same things over again, and wind up in debt and hope for another round of forgiveness. Great idea with lots to think about. judi

This is a poignant write bill and many families are heavily into debt which lasts their whole lifetime and there is no rest-bite for them. Retirement should be debt free that's for sure, a fine acrostic, good luck with the contest, love Dolly x

Rambo, this was quite refreshing. As a Christian, I see every year as a year of Jubilee. Jesus got it done for us on the cross, rose from the dead, sits at the right hand of the Father and his blessing are ours. Believers live in his favor with the riches of his grace--our sin debt forgiven.

Thank you for this great post. I enjoyed it very much.

A very interesting topic. I have never heard of this Israeli tradition. You use "was" in your notes. Was this strictly done in biblical times or more recently in Israel? How often? Once every fifty years? Some lines in your a rustic confused me, such as 10-11.

The Year of Jubilee is referenced in Leviticus in the Old Testament. The freedom from debt or slavery is nowadays paired with salvation or the returning Messiah.

Thank you for explaining. You might want to add this to your notes.
