I agree with your take on distracting images. I prefer one nice still to try to convey the poem's theme which doesn't overshadow the work but rather unites with it. Congrats on your win. Marilyn

Thank you for the great review and congrats, Marilyn. Sometimes they actually work perfectly, but yes, there are times it's too much over the top. I really appreciate the gracious stars, M. Have a great rest of your weekend.

Hiya, Ron

Awesome write! I couldn't agree more. I do appreciate some of the artistry that some authors put into their work, but I think the playing field is put out of balance in competitions.

This really lovely, regardless of your chosen movie pic :)

LOve the tongue in cheekiness here.

kind regards

tracey

Good luck!!! lol :)

Lol, yeah, I had to bitch about moving pictures 'using' a moving picture, lol. Thank you again, Tracey. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend.

I like your point. I also would rather read a story before seeing the movie which has distorted so many aspects. This is a universal poem. Who of us has not made the statement,"I did not like the movie as well as the book." This would make a good debate and discussion poem. Well written. I'm voting for this one.

Not always, Ron.
See, that's what people like you just don't comprehend.
The moving pictures, the sound tracks, music--all the technical wizardry--that's just the garnishment. It's the WORDS that should always come first because those are the meat of the piece.
Today's discerning readers are far too intelligent to be swayed simply by a moving image. You gotta make them feel something, and that comes through in the words you write.
I can honestly tell you that I NEVER look at an animated gif and say, 'Hey, ya know somethin'? I'm think I'm gonna write a poem around that!'
No, no, NO! It just does not work that way.
The words come looooooong before--sometimes months before--the first picture or animation is even thought of.
I've proven time and time again contests which forbid ANY pictures, animations or sounds, can still be won, simply with the writing alone.
That, in and of itself, is enough for me.
Have a grrrrrrrrrrrreat weekend.
~Dean

Relax, D, jeez. Fist off, I'm guilty of it too. Take for instance this piece. You have to play these people sometimes to win these contests. That's exactly what I do. That's exactly what I did. I bitch about moving pictures "USING" a moving picture. Hahaha. How nuts is that. Of course these people aren't stupid enough to vote for a piece just because it has moving pictures. Get real. But some folks "will" see it from that point of view and that's the angle I rolled with. Let all the unhappy people vote for a piece they think might be why they keep losing these contests. You are not the only person on this site who uses moving pictures, so get over yourself. You jump straight to the conclusion that I'm talking about you. This one had nothing to do with anything you've done. There was another piece that was getting votes in another contest that had a pretty moving picture. Their words were why they were actually getting the votes, not just because the picture was moving. But for that one stupid piece I wrote this and you feel the need to get all defensive. IT WASN"T ABOUT YOU! I don't give a fat s#!t if people use moving pictures or not. Yes, it's all just garnish. I do it my damn self. I'm sure I will again. Stop taking what I write so personal. It's just a stupid piece I wrote to get votes. And for some odd reason, this time it worked. Tomorrow, I'm sure I'll write something to piss someone else off. We've been on this site long enough and have battled it out so many times we both know sometimes you win sometimes you lose. None of it matters. It's just playing with dumb ass words. It's meaningless. By next week I'll have forgotten I even wrote this dumb piece. It's just an angle I went this go round. I'd like to believe we are somewhat friends on here. So please stop thinking the ignorant crap I write is always about you. It's not. I know these people have more sense than to vote for a piece just because it has a moving picture. I hope you have a great weekend too, D.

I didn't think it was about me in particular, Ron. But about everyone who enjoys presenting their poetry in such a manner.
I just love all of these contests that Jannypan has been posting recently that forbid special font, fonts of different colors, different backdrop colors, moving pictures, sounds or music, etc, etc, ad infinitum, ad nausea. It simply proves that you, me, and others like us are doing something right.
I'm not upset or angry with you at all. Like assholes, we all have opinions, right?
    I was merely stating mine.
    Have a good weekend.
    ~Dean :)

I'm glad to hear that, friend. I just misunderstood. It seemed as if you were angry at me about the piece. I'm sorry for taking it the wrong way. Never take anything I write to heart. It's just the angle I swing at these contest sometimes. I love a good moving pic as much as the next man, and like I said, I'm sure I'll use them numerous times again myself. Sorry for the misinterpretation. So we're good, right?

Cool. I went and added some more author notes to it, in case anyone might still read it. Have a good one, D.

Do you think they got the irony before they voted...? ? LOL! LOL! ;) This is a great offering for this contest -- love the bit of humor you were able to weave in there! ;) Thank you for entering and for sharing with everyone! ;) ;) Y. M.

Haha, I doubt it. I'm sure the moment they saw the picture, some didn't even bother reading the words. Lol. Thank you for the great review and for throwing the contest, Y.M. I had fun with it. Have a wonderful weekend.

Yeah OK. I would vote for this FOR THIS INCREDIBLE PIECE OF MOVING ART.

Killer!

Nice work on the poem as well. And you are correct about what you have penned here.

Good luck in your contest.

I have an aversion to reviewing. Hope this is long enough before I hit "save". If not, you ain't getting reviewed.

Looks like there was enough review for it to go through, lol. Thank you, Lynda. Yeah, I thought the picture was pretty cool. Sort of an oxymoron to what I'm complaining about, haha. A lot of folks do that on here though, vote for the picture rather than the skill that went into the write. I really appreciate the gracious stars and good luck wishes. I'm glad you liked the piece.

I wonder who could have written this?? Whomever...my thoughts co-inside. Sometimes you just have to get the attention first. Great moving graphic and interesting - nay - captivating word set!

Dear Mystery Writer,

Though your piece is quite lovely, and the words are fun, I don't think this post qualifies for this particular contest. There is no connection in it to any 'aversion' of any sort. I would strongly suggest some sort of an edit before voting. Good luck!

My aversion to people using moving pictures. I guess I didn't make that too clear for some folks. Thanks for the review, Robyn. I'll give it some more thought.
