This tree-hugger 5-7-5, Message on Planting Son's Birth Tree, has the right set up and gives me a great idea for my kids and grandkids this coming spring.

I was hoping to pass that tradition along. We have done it for two grandchildren. A plaque is inserted next to the tree with the honoree's name and birthdate.

Hello :)
This is very nice. Unusual. and I like the sentiment.
I like the alliteration in line 3.
Lovely presentation and in good syllable count.
Good Luck in the voting booth :) Best wishes, Debra

You did a really good job on the theme you chose. This is a beautiful and meaningful verse. Well done on crafting this excellent poem for the 5-7-5 Tree Hugger prompt. Good job.

What a beautiful gesture to plant a tree when a child is born! I love it. Yes, may the develop strong roots that keep them anchored through all the storms of life. Loved it!

Love your poem. What a wonderful tradition. I would have loved to do something like that. However, I have lived in so many places I would never get to enjoy the maturity of the tree. Well done and much luck in the contest. Marilyn

Thanks, Marilyn. That is a problem. Then there is disease and lightening. Hope both my grandson and the oak live long healthy lives.

You have captured an important tradition well in your 5-7-5 poem. In the Native Hawaiian culture, it is customary to bury the baby's umbilical cord to tie him/her to the land. I love the thought of having a baby and a tree growing up together. Best of luck in the contest.

Thank you, Stephanie. What a lovely Hawaiian tradition. That tradition is exactly what we do with the tree planting.

Very good idea to plant a tree when a child is born. Great picture and good word flow. Good luck in the contest. Trees mean a life is growing. Sometimes they burn down but they will be replanted.

Oh, this is just awesome!! :) ;) How many families have done exactly this: planted a tree in honor of something monumental in their family!! :) ;) A great idea for an offering -- thanx for sharing and best of luck at the polls! ;)

Thanks, Yvette. It's been changed somewhat, but the tree offering is still there.

This is an excellent 5-7-5 poem and entry for the contest
A very nice connection of the stability of the oak tree
to the roots of a young person's life.
Excellent picture and presentation, too
Well done
Good luck in the contest

Thank you, RS. I wish we had planted trees for my children. Might have given them stronger roots. They are all over the globe. They do have character roots though that serve them well.

Great haiku. I like that it has personal touches and tradition weaved in. The only thing I might change would be the last line. I would change it to something like "May you both have roots". It builds a sort of connection between the tree and the son that the original line does not quite achieve.

That is a very good suggestion, Cole. My last line started out as "May you both. . ." but I could not finish it in a way that I like. I may very well use your words. Thank you. I will definitely strengthen that last line.
