You have written a vivid protest here, well portrayed in imagery, strength of sentiment and a beating throb. Some sell out to play the avaricious games of the exploiters, so it is up to everyone as individuals to point out injustices, even if it is a drum circle of one.

A very well written and poignant poem. The drum like cadence was very moving and gave power to the well crafted words and vivid imagery.

Well done

To be honest, I rarely read, then review long verses. However, the image and background color enticed me to explore your posting.

There are many terrific elements throughout. Do like phrasing and words you selected.

Hopefully, other FS-ians will agree with my assessment.

A very well-written heartfelt poem about the native tears caught in a totem. We do not all know other's customs and beliefs and have respect for theirs and others should also respect our customs and beliefs.

FEAR is a traitor and will betray its host without conscience or afterthought.
The worst thing about fear is that when we are experiencing it, the effects of it can paralyze and destroy our ability to rationally process our experience in the moment.
You may or may not be interested in some of my favorite acronyms for FEAR, but I'm gonna post them here anyhow:
FEAR--Forgetting Everything About Reality
FEAR--Future Events Already Ruined
FEAR--False Evidence Appearing Real
FEAR--Face Everything And Recover
I enjoyed the "drum-like" rhythmic beat your poem conveys.
Well done.

And somewhere
our Grandfather's
weeping
but not for the teachings
forgot,
he cries
for the souls
of the sleeping,
and those who are woke
but speak not.

Yes, you are so right, we have reached a stage where the US cannot say anything, and They took over our country. Our souls cry in secret and wait for the Truth to come out. Terry

This poem is beautiful and ageless. It is one that I will come back to, as it has many layers that I'd like to understand better. I'm not a big fan of rhyming poetry but this is one of the best ones I've seen on this site.

What I really liked about this poem was the rhythm that really caught the rhythm of a beating drum, beating over and over in a determined, incessant voice. You get the defiance of someone, the bitterness of prejudice, in the vivid, emotional images. There was a lot of color in it, in those totem poles, in the drum circle, in the bird feather, the singed sweetgrass, the shamans made of plastic and glass. You get the hollowness of modern culture, and the solidity of ancient beliefs standing firm underneath it. estory

This is a gorgeous poem :) It speaks to me on a deep level. I can hear the drums and see the natives dancing. I see the spirit of an old friend dancing in her jingle healing dress that she made by herself. I'm predicting this will be nominated for poem of the month. Just my humble opinion. You gave me chills today.

This is a very dramatically descriptive and thought-provoking piece.
I THINK it's about deception and hypocrisy. It seems a Native American
has become powerful by catering to the "enemy." (???)
