Cats are one of my favorite animals (only eclipsed by horses...but just by a tiny bit). I used to have a black cat as well...named Shadow. I like that Maggie has found someone special so that she is not going home to an empty apartment. She sounds like she has a warm heart for kids and animals. :-)

Hi Yvette :)
I like how you set the scene, both of Maggie's workplace and hers and Addy's home. We're now in realtime and it's current, judging by the technology! (Still wondering what happened in the prologue... did she go back in time somehow or were those boys dressing up in 1800's garb for a production?? It's at the back of my mind...) I love the texts interspersed throughout the piece. They have an easy relationship that seems to work well. She is trusting and he is responsible for his years. Thanks for the author notes with the character info. Who is Twilight?! On to the next bit asap.
Best wishes, Debra :)

I'm guessing you found Twilight, yeah? He's here to stay so far as a place in Maggie's life... :) And good to hold onto those questions and look for others to, perhaps, arise... ;) :) Yvette

"Mr. Dejesus looked like he needed to retire yesterday, although he always seemed to have quite a bit of youth hidden in his old eyes." What a great description.

Some very intriguing characters... ;) :)

I'll keep reading...I like the name Maggie, too. Bongo must be a huge cat that eats much. I'm understanding that the written black words in italics are Addy/Maggie speaking?

Ah! Just as I thought. This is promising to be a great story in the making. The chapters are not overbearingly long so it is easy reading. Nice font size too.

Understood and thanx! ;) ;)

Well written, I see you are going to spoon feed the backstory a teaspoon full at a time. I think I like that. I am concerned about Addison, I know he is super smart but seven and a half years old; texting at that level and conversation skills seem to make him a little older, maybe ten or so... I don't know maybe it's just me. good story though, I am looking forward to the next piece.

Yes! ... spoon feeding works well with fantasies, I find. Addy may seem a little older, but that happens when children see more in life than a 'normal child'... thanx for your observations and thanx again for joining the ride! :);) Yvette

Quick and easy to read, which is always nice. Good dialogue. First time I get to read you other than poetry. Your quirky communications shine through. Way to go, Y.

Nice characterisation and set-up here. You can really see the depth of relationship between Maggie & Addie very quickly.
she'd managed to pick-up for the stray - you don't need the hyphen here.
in their run-down building always asked - rundown could be a single word here.

Oh duh, why oh why did I almost miss the start of this excellent story? I know... You hadn't posted when last I checked!
So what happened to the other kids? I'm sure this one-year-old wasn't with them when our protagonist first met them. And of course you have teased me into the next bit, wondering who "Twilight" is...
LOVE the pacing, too!!!

Oh, I'm so glad you enjoyed, Dawn -- you have made my evening! :) ;) This 'posting in such small pieces' is really taking some getting used to for me...some folks don't remember things from one itty-bitty part to the next....it makes me wonder if people read 'hand-held' novels anymore! :) ;) LOL! LOL! Well, this is a novel so, it's gonna be 'slower' than Twitter, I supposed - LOL! :) :) Thank you so much for your time -- it is appreciated! :) ;)
