I like your alliteration. The speaker's friend sounds a bit like "Debbie Downer " or Winnie the Pooh's character Eeyore. There is always someone around to pop our balloons. But we need to move our balloons away out of reach from them. My therapist would say." Is it
really out of character for them to respond that way? But we keep hoping this time things will be different and they will be cheerful and supportive. Well expressed.

Thanks, Liz, for commiserating. I have to tell you that the untrue part is the "downer friend." Just made that part up. Every "story" needs a villain, so I added one. But I love all your "balloon poppers'! (especially Eeyore.) and your supportive reaction to her. thanks you!

This was an enjoyable read, Pome Lover, dark though it is.
The idea of planting money in books or elsewhere, to be exciting finds for the living after your demise, if you live as long as we hope you will, by that time your largess will be a joke (smallgess?)

Stay well,

Don

aren't you clever! That made me smile - smallgess. May steal it from you and use it sometime.
The hidden dinero was temporarily diminished the other day. I decided to re-read a book and guess what? a fiver! But... I replaced it. (It was almost a joke, because it was almost not there)
Many thanks for your very much appreciated review.

I found this story engaging.

With the cost of funerals, cremation and freeze dried may be favorable alternative. In fact, in my poem Tranquility and Simplicity, I favored cremation.

I have never heard of that movie, but after reading your story, I am intrigued to watch it.

I heard of many stories that Goodwill shoppers finding money in items that they bought from the Goodwill story.

Thank you for sharing.

to tell you the truth, that movie wasn't that good. Now if you want a great movie - truly - go see "Upside" if you haven't already seen it. It is wonderful! I highly recommend it.

This was a pleasant little read with some very interesting contemplations about the things we leave behind when we die. Your friend's "attitude"made me laugh.
Jesus DID say "My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?", ( John 14:2)

In that light, we can and will have very glorious furnishings, beyond even our greatest imaginations:

However, as it is written: "What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived" -- the things God has prepared for those who love him-- ( 1st Cor. 2:9).

I truly enjoyed your storytelling. God surely blesses.

I enjoyed this piece so much. We are of the age that we think about the end. I tell my friends we have about ten good years before we become nursing home material.
I Loved your line about Nancy Pelosi's face.
I loved your sister's idea of being put under a pretty tree with the dogs, horse and hubby. Your other sister... CA is nuts. You certainly have given me thought about my stuff. I know my daughter doesn't want a lot of my things so I will have to sell it myself.

My daughter doesn't either, nor my granddaughter, but am going to let them sell them or do whatever they want with house and furnishings. Am putting approximate value on things so they won't give them away - it's their inheritance - up to them.
Thanks for your comments on my piece. They are much appreciated!

I suggest being consistent with the locations. i.e. Cal or CA and S.C. or California and South Carolina.

Maybe touch on the location of your soul. Don't you want to be in heaven?

Despite these comments, I liked this story.

Instead of a beginning, middle and end, it had an end, an end and an end,

Really enjoyed your joke about N.P. I won't lower myself to even say her name.
This is a good read.

I see a necklace around one of the larger branches or maybe I'm just seeing things. ( more about that in a future email)

You'll be in heaven wondering how I got there.

I've seen pictures of dogs playing poker. Maybe the three of you could teach the horse how to play. Don't forget , the brown chips are worth the least.

I'm all over the place with this review. Bottom line. I hope the four of you live happily ever after.

    Marv,
I know I'm hard to take, sometimes. You are such a good catholic boy (man) and I am a questioning Christian - not an atheist.
If the choice is heaven or hell, certainly I want to go to heaven, but if God has created heaven, it would be nice if we could recognize and be able to converse with loved ones - have an afterlife that IS an afterlife. And you're probably thinking, "Well, how do you know it isn't like that. I don't know, of course. Wish I did.
    PS
will have re-read my post. thought I WAS consistent with CA and S.C. Thanks for telling me.

Oh my goodness, Pome Lover,
What an upbeat and just plain "smiles all around" piece of writing. Humorous. Fluid. Information. Witty. And a bit sad...as I no longer enjoy any form of communication with my sisters... But how wonderful that and your sisters still communicate and enjoy a special bond. And a final resting place? Your idea sounds divine!

Thank you for sharing!
Oh..and I agree with your comment about Nancy Pelosi! :)

what neat comments! Thank you so much. To tell you the truth, at the moment we three get along fine, but one of us (think you can guess) is a died in the wool lib and we have gotten in some horrific arguments and for a long time weren't speaking, so we do not get on certain subjects which is HARD with what's going on now!! I'm sorry you and yours aren't communicating. From your picture you look like a happy, easy-going person - in other words, easy to get along with, but forgive me. I shouldn't be commenting.
Anyway, many thanks for your positive response.

    I am "easy-going."
    Also the youngest.
    Also very happy.
    Also not jealous...of anything...
Does that give you a hint? :)

sounds darn near perfect, to me. :)
I'm the oldest of 4 but pretty easy going, too. In fact am having a dinner party tonight - friend's birthday, and I better get myself back to the kitchen.
    Enjoyed our chat!

Life is grand with family and friends around, even the negative ones can inspire us, in a way. I really enjoyed the telling of this story of life, and death. TA ";-)

Well I just love this!!
AWESOME idea hiding money in books!
Of course...mine WILL go to Goodwill...no one, and I mean NO ONE else in the family reads. I still, after 22 years in this family, can't believe that either.
BUT...I buy books from goodwill...what a treat to find a surprise inside...I know others would feel the same.
Hang in there...and hold out for 'that pretty place under a tree!'
Wonderful,
Blessings...

Have you ever read Richard Russo? He has several good ones - the older ones, Empire Falls (which was a good movie), also, I liked The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, Lie Down with Lions - Ken Follet, Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult.
    All good ones.
Thanks again for your review, and happy reading.

my sweet mother and I used to recommend books to each other (she was In GA, and I, in TX) and I kept journals for years with the name of each book, author and something about it and rated how much I liked it. I have four journals full and it's fun to look back and see what I thought of them at the time
reply by Irish Rain on 18-Jan-2019
I love that idea. My sister lives in Yuma, AZ...and I'm in Virginia....we are always either reading the same thing, or same author. It's weird!

I enjoyed your story, pome lover. I could 'hear' you and your sister discussing the arrangements as only sisters would in how they talk to one another. I liked your options. The birds signing sound great. The money in books and the Good Will parts were fun to think about. I like your conclusion as you seem to have decided what you thought all along. Good job and thanks for sharing. Jan
