Charles is really having his eyes opened about so many things it seems.
The secrecy, and danger involved in this whole adventure from the start still simmers throughout this chapter.
Helen seems to have found a newfound courage and has become more pivotal in her choices.
And still the intrigue continues...Blessings
Shirley

Thanks again, Shirley. I appreciate your comments. I think that Charles deserves a little time out to digest all of this! All the best, Tony

Another good instalment with Jeanne's spinning here, but is it truth or fiction to cover herself?

Jeanne remained impassive. "Bellini and his men - the first sentence here is in a slightly different font/colour.

"Kayla? But she's still in Thailand, isn't she? What would she know about it?" Jeanne turned to face Helen more directly. "How did you manage to get back in touch? I thought you'd lost contact."- this threw me a little coming where it does. Helen was standing with Jeanne at the beginning to the chapter when Charles mentions Kayla straight away and about spending time with her but only now does she query this. I think the sequencing may be a little off...

Many thanks for picking that up, G. I've had another look, and have re-written some parts and cut other parts out altogether so that it should make more sense now. All the best, Tony

Hello Tony,
Another excellent chapter in the mystery of the French Letter.
Many questions arise as others are answered,
and truth seems to ooze in-between the cracks.
Jeanne's speech is well done, too well done.
It will be interesting to learn what the bond is between her and Helen. One has suspicions.
Charles needs some time alone to consider things; a train trip sounds just right.
Excellent chapter
Robert

Thanks for your review and shining stars, Robert. A denouement of sorts in the next chapter. All the best, Tony.

-This is an excellent chapter, Tony,
that is filled with some surprises.
-It has been evident that tensions among the
intrepid trio have been mounting.
-I think Charles has been suspicious of Jeanne
early on, and has not understood Helen's attachment to her.
-As Charles presents information he has obtained,
Jeanne is insistent that she is merely "stating the facts."
-We all know that those who speak the loudest,
probably know more than what they are revealing.
-I wouldn't trust Jeanne, either!
-Jeanne, then, wants to make us believe that Kayla
had an overactive imagination when it came to drug lords, etc.
-Charles makes a very interesting observation about
a "spark of electricity" between Helen and Jeanne.
Very interesting, indeed!
-Now, we wait to see where the tides take
Charles with his new found independence.

I apologize that I do not have a six and that I am so far behind in this story. I have been struggling with eye strain as I have retinitis pigmentosa. I am near total blindness with only about 4 percent of my central vision remaining. My reading and writing take longer these days.

This was another fine chapter and ended quite surprisingly. I just didn't think Charles had it in him to part from Helen. We will see in the days ahead.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday with family and friends.
All my best,
Sal ;+)

What more convincing argument for leaving immediately, than Helens.

But the news add trumped that.

I liked the various twists you employed here.

Very realistic back and forth conversations.

Jeanne certainly gave a convincing defense.

An intriguing turn with Helen. Well written chapter.

There's more to Madame Durand than what we so far know I'm thinking. Well, what a surprise, I wasn't expecting Charles and Helen to be the ones parting. That doesn't bode well for her.
The spark of electricity between Helen and the Madame is another interesting little twist.Great chapter Tony, well done,
cheers,
valda

You did a good job with this chapter, Tony. I enjoyed reading it. I believe Charles has made several important decisions and/or discoveries. I thought all along that Helen was very impressionable. I wonder where the story will go with Charles by himself. Interesting setup. Thanks for sharing. Jan

I thought this was the best chapter in a while; the dialogue was crisp and full of tension, you really could feel the fencing between the characters as they shift allegiences and probe each other with parries and thrusts. Helen seems indeed to be in Jeanne's power, and she brushes Charles off kind of abruptly, ditching the train ride to London and preferring to stay in Paris to sort things out with Jeanne, even though Charles seems convinced Bellini's death solves their immediate problems. Evidently there is more to it than that, and Jeanne hints that the bigger Mafia is involved. Good suspense here, and the story seems about to open up into another direction and the tension levels are going up as well. estory

Thanks, estory. I appreciate the review and the sixth star. This chapter should prove pivotal. That?s the idea, anyway.
