Although I disagree completely with your point of view, I agree with the concept of the country being torn apart, but not by Trump. The division escalated during Obama's presidency. Everyone hoped he would be a prez for all, but he was extremely partisan and belligerent, exactly what Trump is being accused of now.
Congress worked together pretty well during the Bill Clinton and the Bush presidencies. Whether we can get back to camaraderie again remains to be seen. One thing for sure, the country needs to remain sovereign--something open borders and socialism will not do. Marilyn

I don't believe in a sovereign, someone that has the supreme power to ruler the people. I believe in a strong leader, someone that discusses the problems that people of the US have with all opinions on the table and comes to a decision, not a prez that tells the other parties that it is going to be my way. The presidency is more than a TV show. It's a responsibility not just to a chosen few for for the whole of the American people. Mr. Trump is not a politician, but even he should have learned to think before he speak. I don't believe in socialism, we all work for what we earn, though a helping hand once in a while is correct. As for the wall, well it looks ugly and that makes the American people look the same. Yet, if Trump really wanted the wall he could he could have asked Congress for a limited amount of money and completed one section at a time, with his 4 years in office it would have been completed and we would not be fighting just grumbling and the government would not be close hurting more of the people he is sworn to protect. At least that is my opinion, Marilyn. That's why we have a country (at the present) because we are free to disagree, but not to hate each other.

Hi Poet. I appreciate your comments. I think we agree more than disagree. Sovereign nation mean self-determination and not globalism. Sovereign doesn't refer to an autocratic ruler. How long we can remain a sovereign nation is questionable. That's what Trump is attempting to protect. Our limited resources cannot support every person who wants to come here. It's very simple--apply, be accepted, and if accepted--come in. Marilyn

Excellent piece and very unique metaphor.
I agree with your thoughts completely. Also with the 200 word limit. There is far too much to say on this particular subject to be constrained by a limited word count.

Yes, ma'am! Don't beat around the bush--tell us how you really feel! It is so unfortunate that everything you've written about is true--brother against brother, divided nation, etc. All we can pray for is an end to this madness. Good luck in the contest!

Sharp and poignant, very down-to-earth and reasonable description of a President. You pen in just a few words the substance of a behaviour and character of a man ( and many may agree with you) who happens to rule a great nation.

Thank you Donka! Just told the truth even if not everybody agrees. Thanks for those stars.

An interesting article. It is a very troubling time right now and I keep wondering what the outcome will be?
I have serious issues wirh this man's attitude that he can do whatever he wants regardless of the cost - monetary or otherwise.
Notes:
he says one thing and speaks with the another
Wondering if you meant to have 'the another' or the other?
All the best,

You write well. I could give you just four stars, because, as the author, you assumed to much. All of us can have our own opinions. According to the 1st Amendment, you may have your opinion, just as I may have mine. We both have to deal with the same facts. Your writing would be much more effective if you didn't assume everyone agreed with you. I can assure you, you would not believe how many do not.

I respect your opinion, for in this nation of our we are free even if we do not agree. A man once said, " I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it unto the death." I do believe we need a wall, but not in the way our president goes about it. I corrected my mistake with the pen. This is how it reads now. " I believe everyone will agree with me on the word limit on this." Thank you, my brother, for pointing out my error.

Only one thing to remember. No one is elected President, unless they win the Electoral College vote. We have the Electoral College for excellent reasons.

Thank you for explaining the word, "anphivena." This is very helpful. Your poem brings out the juxtaposition of honoring the President but despising his actions. Well written and balanced.
