Thanks for reminding me about how strong Helen Keller was. She did so much more than most women do who have all five senses. I didn't know Alexander Graham Bell helped find Anne Sullivan.

Thank you so much for the lovely review - so happy that you enjoyed and it reminded you about what an amazing woman Helen Keller was. I, too, did not realize that Alexander Graham Bell had assisted in Helen's growth until reading more about her. I was inspired by my middle-school granddaughter a few years back when I was helping her with a report she was doing on an American heroine. This is a remarkable work of poetry, artfully relating in detail the history of the life of Helen Keller.
(I have one suggestion. Consider the next to last 'stanza,' that actually is prose laid out in the manner of the rest of the piece.
I believe it would be preferable to present it differently, unchanged, in the same place, to maintain continuity , between two lines of asterisks:
**************************************************************
Then at the age of 83, the U.S. placed......etc.
**************************************************************
I don't know what the competition will be, but I'll be very surprised if this work doesn't win the "Share a Story in a Poem contest.

I love this poem. I learned about Helen in school and she has always been a hero of mine. An example of how one can overcome what life throws at you. The human spirit is incredible. Extremely well done. ;)

Thanks for writing that piece. I had heard of Helen Keller but not known her story. It was a clever idea to use that first section to get the reader to imagine their own world if they suddenly became deaf and blind. You put Helen's story in a very accessible manner that held my interest right through.

This is an exceptional tribute to a strong and courageous woman who inspired so many in her lifetime. Her story is amazing and the fact that you were able to put this into a poem that not only flowed naturally but painted a picture so clearly. I ran out of sixes or I would have given you one. I recently watched a remake of the Helen Keller story. The little girl who played her was closer in age than Patty Duke and actually was a better performer. There is a video of Helen online speaking. She says her greatest regret is the inability to speak clearly. It's obvious she can't hear herself. Her speech is flawless.

She was certainly an amazing woman who overcame the challenges of being deaf and blind - gifts that we all take for granted far too easily! Thanks for the lead on the video of Helen speaking.
