Thank you for sharing your lovely, 3-7-4 haiku and its strong "aha" moment. Your use of alliteration and the parallel photograph added to the poem's intensity. Best wishes in the contest- Joan

I love this style of poetry, though I am unable to write,
I can nevertheless enjoy other peoples poetry.
You have given me beautiful imagery through your words.
Such a lovely poem with so few words.

"snowflakes fall
on yesterday's flower bed
sleeping beauties"

Beautiful!

Thank you Colette for your thoughtful and encouraging review. I just started writing this form a few years ago. It is a challenge but it is also fun.

This is a delightfully penned JSF haiku, my friend. Both flowers and bulbs sleep in the beds of winter. Best wishes in the contest, my friend~Debbie

-Very nice image and presentation, Janet.
-I am glad to see your haiku on FS.
-The syllable count is good, and
you have all of the requirements for a haiku.
-I like the imagery and idea in
your first two lines.
-You also have a very good satori line.
-Have a great 2019 and hope
you share more of your haiku.

Hello Janet,
You've written an excellent haiku for the contest.
It has all the attributes of a fine haiku with good grammatical connection,
use of the present tense, excellent imagery of a moment, a season reference (snow)
and a fine reflective satori line (some don't like personification, but I think works well here)
Nice picture to match
Well done
Good luck in the contest

The key word here that makes this interesting is 'yesterday'. The snowfall here seems like a blanket or a sheen on some memory, and the sleeping beauties analogy gives it a sense that it will re-awaken someday. There is a softness to the writing that captures the tranquility, maybe the poignancy, of the moment. Of course you have the nature image, the great balance, the epiphany moment. nice one estory

I love the imagery and metaphor used in this referring to the flowers as sleeping beauties that are just resting under the snow until they are brought back to life with the suns kiss. I found this really clever and lovely to read.

Lovely Haiku that paints a vivid picture in your mind of last season's flowers, now covered in snow; their beauty sleeping silently... Enjoyed immensely!

I love a good Haiku and this one is lovely.
You create a beautiful snow scene in the
first two lines and your Satori reminds us
of the beauty asleep beneath the snow waiting
for Spring.
Good luck in the contest.

In my opinion, simply beautiful - the write reminds us of the dormant theme of winter and the beauty that lies beneath its coverlet and does so in succinct elegance - it complies perfectly with the prompt. Best of luck in the contest...
