Hi Craig, that is so very true. Esteem cannot be bought. And interesting 5-7-5 poem you've composed here with quite the play of words. I liked it a lot. You're doing a great job with all the words in your book. All the best. Ulla:))

Yes, esteem can't be bought, it has to be earned. Your 5-7-5 conveys the meaning of the word 'emption' well, Craig.

Just over a week to go and you'll have written and posted a poem a day for an entire year ... phew! That's quite an achievement. Way to go, Craig!

Cheers,
Connie

Yes, it seems like a lot of work to me too, Connie. Then I look at all these show-offs who have done two poems a day, and think, "How on Earth do you manage it?" lol Thanks for the kind wishes (and comments); I am looking forward to taking a bit of a break (relatively speaking) next year :) Cheers, Craig

Excellent way to say it! I can guess the Latin root because of caveat emptor and emporium. But who can ever buy respect if their actions don't deserve it? I guess mob bosses?

Ha, but is that really respect, Helen? Many thanks, Craig

Hey, Craig,

Read through your poem this morning, lots of thoughts.

Emption of respect, love, friendship... all things that money can't buy. They say. But earned.

This short 5-7-5 does a solid job of giving a reader a sense of the word theme of the day. It could have been about all the holiday shopping, but I like this because given all the shopping, I've found it really hard to buy things for people this year. Yet then there's the guilt at going anyplace empty handed.

Reading here, I wonder if there's emption to keep esteem, like if you don't, then people will think you don't like them. For example, my mom says she doesn't want to come to our family Christmas party because she can't buy people stuff. I told her, she's missing the point. It's about seeing people, and hanging out, no gift or lack there of is greater than that.

(Then I immediately feel guilty if I go and don't have anything.)

I know I'm rambling, but these are the things I thought on reading this poem.

Point is... it's all about me, my guilt ... so scrambling to get gifts is one, vain ... confusing... emption on my part.

That's why everyone I love is getting toilet paper this year. So they know I want to be close to them, always and everywhere.

They may not respect me, but they will have no choice but to think of my love when they are using the potty.

Nice job with this poem, I enjoyed. : )

LOL Turtle, love your choice of gift, as long as it doesn't wind up on the bottom of their shoe -- that's a really silly look!

I get the confusion surrounding all this gift giving stuff.

My other half has come to an agreement with her parents not to give gifts. This has been in force for a couple of years now, and is always an embarrassment when we rock up for Christmas dinner and the brother and sister-in-law hand over our gifts and we have nothing for them. She's also decided we won't give each other gifts, yet she went out after work yesterday and spent two hours shopping for trinkets for work colleagues!

We just got a vet bill for $2000 for our dog, so I guess that is our xmas present to each other [sigh]. We might actually live comfortably if we didn't spend half our income on our menagerie :)

    Thanks again,
    Craig

At first I thought there was a typo (emotion--emption!) ha ha ha. Interesting word. Timely, as people are busy buying holiday gifts. Well done. I know who this is, even though reviewing with blinders. Hi Craig! Happy Holy Daze!

I like the alliteration of E and consonance of T. Fine flow. Good meaning too!

Warmly, rd

    LOL Hi RD!

You knew it was "Mr Weird Words"? I'm honoured ;-)

    Who is Hollie Daise, anyway?

Joys of the season to you, too! :)

    Cheers,
    Craig

It's surprising how many people think they can buy respect, love and, their way into Heaven. Your poem really points that out and proves the point It's very appropriate for the season. Merry Christmas.

Hello Craig. I like this word... emption... and I also like your verse that tells us that we cannot buy affection or love.. Good job, as always.

All the best,

Melissa

I shall bear this in mind when I go shopping for my wife's Christmas present this year, and refer her to your excellent poem if she isn't satisfied with the outcome!

    LOL Tony,

Oh sure, blame it on me. Why not? Everyone else does!

I'm still trying to figure out why my other half didn't seem overly enthusiastic this time last year. What woman doesn't need a bulk pack of WD40 and an angle grinder?

    No pleasing some people!

What can be said about this small form other than each word becomes so important? You have used it well (as you always do), and the message imparted is one our societies (as a whole) could pay more attention to, if you ask me...

    Thanks once again, Dawn.

Just so you know I'm not really a cheapskate... I bought you a flashy little sports car for Christmas (red, of course, because they go faster). Unfortunately, Canadian regulations won't allow it to be imported, as the steering wheel is on the wrong side. [sigh] Guess I'll have to keep it ;-)

A very well-written 5-7-5 poem about the shopping day. We often waith till the last minute to do the final shopping and cannot find what we are looking for, while some things are simply not for sale.

Thanks so much, Sandra. Christmas shopping is seldom a big chore for me. I don't give presents, usually ;-) Most grateful, Craig
