This poem leaves me feeling somewhat torn-on whether to venture forth, say out of my house for adventure, or not. I would prefer not, as I have been one to run my mouth at times. Also there seems to be a world at my fingertips, on my computer, and in my surroundings. I enjoy making my collages, practicing my piano and flute, and writing, especially poetry. Great use of the word Thule. I had not heard of it that I can remember.

Thanks for the kind review. While the poem was specifically about those who venture into parts unknown, I guess it could apply to a trip down the street. When there's plenty to occupy us at home, who needs to go out?

Yes, and at one period of time those soaring through the universes in the Starship Enterprise will be seen as ancient mariners.
Yes again, it's also good to get a "feel" for the land before running around shooting one's mouth off.

Lol!!
Seems like very good advice. Unfortunately, there are way too many folks who believe they do not need to learn the customs and common ways. They charge in like the proverbial bull.

Nice pic of the Enterprise there. Appropriate for those "who boldly go" to Thule. Thanks for the info on the date when the South Pole was reached. And now they have a station there. Although we are amazed at feats like reaching Mars (with robots) but I'm still really impressed by explorers and travelers who crossed continents mostly on foot in ancient times.

I think both exhibit equal courage and daring, not to mention possibly a certain measure of foolhardiness. I'm referring to human space travel, not sending robots, that doesn't require much bravery. Thanks, Helen.

A very well-written poem/story it is not always wise to travel to places that are hardly known. We cannot for certain know what we will find there and may never return home.

The problem with people giving advice is that it's usually wrong or subjective, and they usually should keep their advice to themselves. I've had a much fuller, more well-rounded life than most people, but I usually don't dole out advice as people are so quick to do. And I don't ask or heed it unless absolutely necessary--usually when survival or some mandate forces me to listen to someone I don't want to listen to. I live by a simple rule in life: don't give advice unless it's asked for. And even then, don't give someone advice unless you know you're right. As Daniel Boone said, "Know you're right, then go ahead."
As far as their being strength in numbers, frankly, I'd rather have lots of weapons on hand--or at least always keep a rifle loaded--as I do at home. You can't always trust those "numbers" to do the right thing and have your back. But you can trust a rifle--as long as you keep it cleaned and oiled properly.

I've no time, or need, for a rifle, handgun, bow and arrow, baseball bat or slingshot. But, each to their own. Thanks for reviewing.

Well I learned a lot from this one, Craig. I am amazed at your knowledge of Greek history. I've studied Greek history and mythology, but I did not know (or have forgotten) Thule.
I also learned that it is time for me to stay home. Exciting journeys sound awful.
