Hah, I live waayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out in the sticks, Bill, with very little around but cow pastures and corn fields.
So, I never have to worry about leaving the city.
I feel very sorry for those who do have to endure the rat race of city living, however. I used to, years ago, out of sheer convenience.
But now, I'm far too old, slow and tired to race anything--even rats!
Nice 5-7-5, buddy...

Me too. Twenty years ago I bought a three acre lot outside of a little town here in Michigan. Neighbors weren?t. Close or too chatty. A year later they built a housing development @cross the road. Now the small tow; has grown to include us.

I totally agree with you leaving the city is like being reborn. Hell's grasp is a great description of living in cities. The picture goes very well with your words.Very nice job.

Hi Bill. Normally, I would agree wholeheartedly. But people like me can't survive in rural areas that are not near a hospital with an ER and Urgent Care. When young and healthy, I did live in such an area. That aspect of it was like paradise. Our six acres had rattlesnakes and all sorts of other critters. Orchards too. Until the Coyote fire of '64. Small by today's standards. Santa Barbara has enough amenities and medical services but is not really a city. More of a village. Thank you for sparking fond memories. And for sharing

The attrition from the hectic life in a heartless city is. Fifty fifty. If you can m@ke it there, you?ll make it anywhere.

I don't know Bill. Wouldn't it depend on which city you were leaving and your eventual destination. There are some places I would be reluctant to leave ever and likewise some places I never wish to visit. Again, it depends.

I left Detroit and discovered the world didn?t suck. Then I visited Beirut, Kuwait City, Mogadishu, and Port au Prince and left there thinking fondly of Detroit.

I think I agree to some degree. I live in a very small city so that's how I feel leaving a big city. But there are problems with every place where mankind dwells. Good word choices to create a dramatic effect especially your present active participles in parallel "leaving" and "escaping."

So true! If I've been fighting my way through Cape traffic all day, I can't wait to get home and take a stroll in the woods near my home. Your poem hits the nail on the head!

I can identify with this write and when I was at work and worked in the city, it was a pleasure to leave every evening and a dread to enter it every morning, bit cities are very impersonal places, few words here brought back those memories, love Dolly x

Ain't it the truth.

I like this, Bill. Your wit shines through in every word. Yet every word is truthful. That is exactly what it feels like to get away. I never check emails or messages. It is as though I am born again, and nobody knows me.

Nice post.

LOl - I can relate. I actually grew up in New York City but when I visit there now I feel like an alien. It's quite disorienting feeling that way in my hometown but I always breathe a sigh of relief when leaving the congested city. Prefer fresh air and vast skies! Good form and presentation. Fine consonance and alliteration of L.

Warmly, rd

Absolutely! This is a really good one, Bill, I'm sure there are loads of
people who feel the same. This is a nice little 5-7-5 poem! Well done.
