Wow - what did you do? Swallow an artist's dictionary of unusual color words? If only, I paged down to see your glossary, I wouldn't have looked up each word. Lol.
Beautiful picture tanka of the effect and impact of colors in the world due to the arrival of the sun.

Yo dude, what the heck are you talking about? You have managed to totally confuse me. It sounds good and very poetic, but I do not understand what you are talking about. At the same time, my knowledge and understanding is rather limited so the fault is not yours. What is obvious is my learning needs to be increased.

Translation:
Brown to brownish yellow skin
upon blue waves arrives
ivory clouds
witness beauty from the sea
join the copper green shore

Thank you for the notes at the bottom, they really cleared up the vocabulary for me.. I didn't realize xanadu meant green.. Good luck in the contest.

With all the fancy words, the line that speaks to me is "witness beauty from the sea." I suppose it's just me, but I'd prefer to see a limit to the use of unfamiliar words. You do a great job with the tanka format. The count is precise and you have a consistent flow. Nice sounds with the sounds, such as fulvous and glaucous and falu Xanadu. judi

Well...you certainly did your Thesaurus proud on this one -- I always enjoy the use of little known words in place of the drab everyday, and you have certainly gone all out on this one. Wenge is a relatively unknown type of wood finish for furniture, but it's made a breakthrough as an accent color as of late.
From the Millettia laurentii tree found in Central Africa, this is a tropical timber that is very dark brown in color.
Fulvous is also a color, sometimes described as dull orange, brownish-yellow or tawny, it can also be likened to a variation of buff, beige or butterscotch. As an adjective it is used in the names of many species of birds, and occasionally other animals, to describe their appearance. It is also used as in mycology to describe fungi with greater color specificity, specifically the pigmentation of the surface cuticle, the broken flesh and the spores en masse.
"Glacous" refers to a dull grayish-green or blue color.
"Eburnean" simply means resembling ivory in color.
In Finland, falu red is known as punamulta ("red earth"), after the pigment, which consists of finely divided hematite. Since the binder is starch, the paint is permeable to water. In Estonia, falu red is known as Rootsi punane, or "Swedish red"...
A dream version of Xanadu is an allusion to a real historical place, built as a summer palace in what is now called Inner Mongolia. Marco Polo visited it, starting a legend that filtered all the way down to Samuel Coleridge in England. The dome is his way of referring to the legendary palace of Xanadu.
It's also an eighties film starring Australian blonde bombshell, Olivia Newton John.
Good tanka construction.
