Tis ingrained in the American psyche to have guns. Australia doesn't have guns, thank the Lord. How many more shootings in the States before your leaders do something about automatic, handguns being illegal?

More than likely never. The simple answer is that gun lovers usually outvote those opposed to gun ownership. An even sadder fact is that not all gun owners are selfish insecure 'wannabes' (people who fantasize about shooting bad guys. The NRA always manages to scare voters into thinking that the government wants to take away folk's guns making them vulnerable to attack from some dark mysterious strangers. Pure BS, but they fall for it every time. and then someone they love falls victim to gun violence and then the suffer remorse and you guessed it they blame the government.

I guess guns are ingrained in the American society. Hunting etc. I used to rifle-shoot targets. Australia doesn't support guns. I can think of no way to stop the killing in your country. XXK.

This is a very heartfelt poem. It flows well and has a definite draw on the emotions. This was another horrific event in which the innocent paid the very high price of their lives. Your well chosen words make it all too real again. Well done!!

Thank you Countess. I pray that no one you love or are close to ever has to suffer this most awful tragedy. My heart acghes for all the innocent victims of violence.

I can't imagine what would make people do something so evil..
One young girl stated it was beautiful how people rallied and helped each other. It was her 21st birthday.. yikes yikes yikes

Everyday innocent children suffer from having reality turn them into hardened and cynical adults far sooner than they planned it happening. The world we now inhabit is a far crueler world than in past generations. Life was harder in the past and there were fewer protective laws in place, but people were nicer and not so cold blooded then, I think. Sad, sad world situation today.

Very powerful read. The image is far to fitting for the piece. It seems like these kind of senseless killings are getting as regular as Monday Night Football. I can't help but think of the Parents and pray they don't torture themselves with "what ifs." Very well done.

Yes, it is getting so bad that I am afraid to go anywhere. In a bar, in a car, on a plane, on a train, on a bus, heaven help us, in a church you might be in the lurch. No place is safe anymore. LOL. Thank you for your comments.

You say so well what's on all of our minds. The fact that now we just, "sadly shake our heads" is just so sad. So sad because it's so true. This has become way too commonplace a thing. Our children are becoming desensitized to real violence the same way they are when they watch a weekly television show. Though one is not the same as the other. Just saying that the real is becoming so frequent that people are beginning to get used to it. What's happening?? I don't want my child "used" to this crap!

Sadly, this is becoming the new normal. Worse, there is not much that we can do other than to keep our heads on a swivel and devise a plan for escape.

Thank you for your comments. I think the bigger problem is the overall sanctioning of gun ownership and usage, the no matter what, it is my right to own and shoot my guns whenever I choose, mentality.

This short poem reminds us of all the people who died and alludes to how certain people will not let gun control laws change even if it would stop most of these senseless deaths. Sadly, I feel they well keep happening until the NRA lets gun control laws be more intelligently managed.
