The hill and dale is a style I had not encountered before, and it tries to make you read it like a limerick at first. Excellent post, with introduction to a style, and sound images.

Congratulations RodG
for placing first place in the Spring contest and I can see why after reading this part of your poem- in the format of HILL & DALE, smiles when you wrote how the--
canticle's sung by a choir
of flora spread from muddy mire
along the rill,
up steep-sloped hill
until it reaches crescendo
on this magnificent plateau.

Is so musical with a great beat to dance or march by
Gert

A lovely poem. A beautiful picture to go with it. I'm left yearning for Spring!!! Not that I'm not anyway, and it's not yet the "W" word. Ahhh, the peace and tranquility of a mountain valley covered in spring flowers. I feel so bad for people who never get to experience such things!

It is a delightful poetic picture of spring .The long lines and short lines gives an up/down lilt and I loved the rhymes that seemed to flow naturally.

Firstly, congratulations on winning this contest. I love it. The style is one that I've never heard of before and it suits your poem as if it was made especially for your words. Hill and Dale, I must make a note of it and have a go myself. It's absolutely lovely, everything that Spring is, is portrayed in your beautiful words. Well done! :) Sandra xxx

Hi Rod. Congratulations on winning the contest with this fine poem. Written and illustrated beautifully. It brought a smile as I noticed the Hill & Dale form consists of rhyming couplets, which as you've often mentioned, is not your favorite rhyme pattern. For me, I think all types of rhyming (or not) have a time and place. Marilyn

Hi Marilyn. Many thanks for sharing ?Sweet Song of Spring.? I truly appreciate your kind praise and the congrats. And I knew if you read this one I?d hear about the rhyming. It wasn?t easy writing those couplets, but I liked the challenge of a new pattern. Rod

Congratulations on your first place win with this lovely poem. I really like the format of this "Hill and Dale." Spring is my favorite season and your words help bring that season back to life. It is snowing in Missouri (flurries and 30s).
