Hi Jen. I wrote one about Alzheimers a while back. So sad. My husband may have it. Hope not. Congrats on winning the contest. Good job. Thank you for sharing

This is a poignant portrait of dementia in lyrical verse. That's an impressive feat. I don't know who to feel sorrier for, the woman or her children.

HELLO Poet: Where are your family? Judging from your posting here, your family is within you. Deep down to the bottom of your heart. You love your family. And they love you. Evidently...your son loves you very much. Because he's been bringing you flowers all the while his hair was turning from blonde to grey. That's a long time, poet. You don't even acknowledge it...yet he continues to bring flowers to, Mom. Your daughter smiles for you, and holds your hand gently...and calls you, Mum. You are within the hearts of your family. Deep down to the bottom of their hearts. Judging from your posting here. God bless you and your family, poet. Cordially: rhonnie69.

Wow, this is real life. I have experience with Alzheimer's in my family, and you are spot-on with the frustration that my stepmom felt. As happens with really good writing, I don't realize there is rhyming unless I go back and check. I was so entrenched with the story of it that I didn't realize you were rhyming until I went back and looked at it.

This is just so sad, on so many levels! Sad that they are there and she doesn't know them, and sad then too that she thinks they don't come! Ugh. Alzheimer's is such a cruel disease. This is just so simply stated, no flowery language, but it's real and stark and very well done! Your last stanza just gets me... Excellent entry!!!! I'm glad I finally stopped in to read this!

This is heartbreaking. I went through this with my mom when she was dying of COPD. She didn't recognize me at all and we were very close when I was young. It broke my heart to see this vibrant woman in that state, I was her caregiver and with her everyday. This is beautifully written and makes you think. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest.

This is a sad yet beautiful poem, as this is the truth for so many families nowadays. Dementia and Alzheimer's and other brain related illnesses are rife especially in the elderly and I can't imagine how it must feel to have a family member not remember who you are. I think you expressed how this would feel from the individuals point of view really well- 'I don't know why these strangers come'. It must be so confusing and frightening for the person and their family. Lovely portrayal. X

Aw, such a sweet and bittersweet poem. Good feeling to hear about kids who care, no matter what. Sad that people have to live without their recent memories. Very well written. I see no errors. Great job!

Well done creating this emotion. I read a similar poem before about a man with Alzheimer's forgotten by his relatives but cared for by a kind lady. In this case, it could be that the young woman herself could be the daughter that's just not recognized by the ailing mother.

A very well-written poem about the time we are old and we cannot remember so well anymore. Strangers come to visit and tell us they are our children whom we do not see anymore.
