Hi Craig,

I read through this short poem highlighting the word desulture. It seems this one word compresses the entire image of changing/ jumping horses into a few syllables and makes it a noun of its own in concept... the act itself imbodied over an action.

You did a strong job of weaving it back to the better known metaphor for switching to a better predicament via the switching horses saying, (I couldn't help but think of that katy perry parady from the key of awesome. : D ... the one I posted in the music forum a long time ago, where the guy is singing to pho-katy all the horse metephors... and he mentions wanting to switch horses mid-stream. But I am jumping on a tangent)

The poem goes beyond the theme of just giving the word some ground to plant its meaning, by then contemplating the deeper aspects of bad idea, or good idea...

I'm given the impression that there's an acknowledgement of risk involved in the process, but sometimes ... need and survival override the inherent risk of sticking to perhaps a questionable horse that's going to run you over a waterfall.

Well, you nailed it as usual, Turtle. We have just switched horses here today. Unfortunately, from this angle, they both still look like horses' arses :) Most grateful. Craig

The black horse is saying to the white one, "I'm throwing him off the next time he tries this!" Lol
I can't even change the lead in mid-canter, much less the whole horse. Funny that there's a word for it. Nice job, Craig. I won't comment on your political notes, we have enough to worry about already here in the States.

    Hi Carol,

Please rest assured I have read, and truly appreciate your comments. And, as is always the case, I responded individually to them. Then, by simply pressing the wrong button, I irretrievably lost ten responses that had taken me half an hour or more to type (not for the first time). I don't have time to retype them all today, so you are now receiving a "canned" response, and for that I'm sorry.

Please know that I do appreciate your comments, very much. And, if you get time, perhaps drop Tom a note suggesting he remove the stupid "Next Page" button from the comments page, or at least auto-save the responses before opening a new page. Thanks :)

Arghh that's frustrating! I know you read the comments, no need to apologize.

Well if I was going to jump from on horse to another it seems to me mid-stream would be the safe time to do it... in order to save any broken bones if you miss the target. LOL
I never did understand that cliché. Well done CD. :) Nancy

A very well-written poem and it seems to be a very difficult act to do physically and only ones that know what they are doing should do this act. A symbolic desulture is not physically dangerous but in many other ways it can be dangerous.

Hi,
As fellow Aussie I hear your message loud and clear.
Well penned .
Between politics, drought, floods, bushfires and the like Aussies must be a resilient people to rise to each and every challenge with commitment and gusto.

Are you suggesting that perhaps the American government might consider changing horses lest we destroy ourselves? Isn't that the truth! Personally, I did not think that Trump would last this long.
I like the word desultory and all that it offered you to write about.

Thanks so much for the lovely comments, Debbie. I don't think Trump thought Trump would last this long. Time for a change? Cheers, Craig

Yes. I think that Trump has been in shock since he won.

I mean when you think about it, Craig, it makes sense not to change horses in the middle of the stream, but then some writer turned the truism into a metaphor and suddenly it meant something else entirely. Crazy writers. LOL

Excellent and thoughtful post and I even liked the little twist in your author notes. So if it's not referring to the Australian government, what were you referring to?

Excellent work.

Errrrrrrrr ummmm I was referring to ummmmm..... nope can't tell you. As a poker player from way back I know to keep my cards close to my chest - especially when I'm holding trumps. What's that? Poker doesn't have trumps? Lucky game.

    Many thanks, Gloria :)

Fun word - desulture sounds more French and related to desultory. I can't help but be reminded of the comic movie, "My Fellow Americans" where the campaign speech is constantly, "Don't change horses in midstream."

We definitely are fighting for another day like in your poem. I like how you talk about foolish acts. This poem is entertaining and interesting. I found no mistakes. The picture looks nice. Good luck in the contest!

Most intriguing this strange word, referring to 'changing horses mid stream'
which sometimes is the only chance or recourse for redirection or new course
set to reach intended destination or position. An enlightening too, to
add to one's vocabulary! That is indeed a most fascinating book you
are getting your clues and inspirations from! Thanks for sharing!
Best wishes, Ronni
