Wow, what a story! I truly love how you took a devastating act of nature and turned it around to a story of rejuvenation and growth. I'll bet you will always miss those trees but at least you still have your home, and you survived the storm.

Youw well-written and poignant story reminded me of the current problems we are having worldwide in this summer of record heat temperatures. So many lives have been lost not just in California but particularly in Greece and now Portugal and Spain, as well as Germany and our great forests - all are affected.
Those who keep preaching the there's no climate change can witness for themselves in the last couple of weeks.

My parents have cut a lot of trees down over the past couple years for different reasons. It's crazy how you almost take your shade/trees/wildlife/etc for granted. I'm glad you were able to take the bad and turn it into something beautiful. If you've read my last post you probably don't want me to come and see your yard. I might kill all the flowers so I'll enjoy them through your writings. :)

When the storm subsided, we mourned the passing of those grand and magnificent trees that had graced our property long before we ever became its stewards (period, new sentence to be reworded, or a comma) as well as shrubs (comma) and(omit and) *(comma) trees (comma) and perennials that we had planted, nurtured, and admired (comma) for over twenty-seven years.
I do not remember crying at anytime during (comma) or after the storm(comma) even when we were without power for over a week. But there were surely moments of shock (comma) coupled with disbelief (comma) as my husband and I walked our property and assessed the damage.
The two sentences above need to be restructured in order to be grammatically correct and/or to make sense. I noticed a few more that have the same problem with comma usage (or lack thereof.)

Wow, unbelievable. I live in Fl and we have hurricanes. It is amazing the winds that are unleashed. We had a bad one some months ago and I thought for sure all our trees would be down, I kept expecting a tree branch thru a window any minute. We have conservation land behind us so knew there would be lots of damage. The next morning we look and not a tree branch had even been bent! We could not believe it. I am still amazed that there was no damage at all to our property. I am so glad you are recovering and you even discovered new views to enjoy. Is the picture of your Dogwood that was broken to a stump? I would love to see your yard, it must be beautiful. Great story. Hope the wooded areas and forrest recover soon. Rox

Hi Diane, It's amazing what damage a freak weather system can do to mother nature. But, equally it's also amazing how trees and other plants seems to be capable of rallying back.
