This is a very well written poem. I really enjoyed reading it. Your reminiscences paint such a lovely image. I found it extremely atmospheric. Nice one. Best wishes Jen.

    Thanks so much for the excellent review and for your wonderful comments supporting this poem. It is kind of ethereal, a reminiscence of all those beautiful days I remember from Long Island, and the enchantment that could take me away, far from the problems and rat race of life estory

Thank you for sharing this "time and place of dreams". I admired your alliteration of "s's" to intensify the imagery and your appeal to our senses of sight and sound. The "sailboats" simile and the play on their names were very effective. Cheers- Joan

P.S. I tried to better define the water image in my recent poem, as you suggested:

Beautfully written, yes the metaphorical yacht is a solid symbol of a floating island in a sea of lostness, or a raft, although it stand as a wide meaning of grasping at an object of meaning, (we've been to Fire Island, does that count? Heh heh.) I loved the whole poem, the sea is a frequently used expression of man's awe, the sea shanties I've always loved, well done, blessings, Roy

    So glad you enjoyed my poem of the sea, and let it carry you away to that place and time of dreams. I wrote another piece about Fire Island;

    Off shore, you see it as a line of island,
    Not more than a stepping stone into the water,
    A place forever claimed by the sky and the sea.
    Nothing is permanent here. Each storm, each tide,
    Washes the sand clean again,
    Leaves nothing behind,
    But the last blaze of light that gave the island its name.
    Your footsteps will melt, and be gone.

    What a beautiful work about that favoured spit, we enjoyed our brief contact and uniqueness of setting. Thank you for a treasured memory. A wonderful day spent with loved ones. Bless you.

Sounds like a vision -- of a place, mysterious, beautiful and enchanting, a Dreamland. Vivid and striking images, a poem capturing the reader's imagination.
