Thank you for your notes of additional context and the background about what made you devote yourself to helping those with mental illness. I appreciated your recounting Ivan's decision and its impact on you in these rhymed quatrains and effective use of dialog. He certainly did take back his "fate," and I am sure he greatly valued your support. Sighs- Joan

Thanks so much Joan... It was a surrealistic moment in time... Euthanasia is a whole different ball game than suicide... it is prepared for. He had money so he had to make sure insurances were right for his family and his property was completely paid off for his family. It was a process and the final curtain call was attended by his family. It is something that I wasn't familiar with. Many long emotional goodbyes led up to one moment. yours, diana

Thank you for making the distinction clear and letting me know that your friend prepared his family well. Warm regards- Joan

So sad when a soul chooses to end the fight before the cancer calls them home. I understand why he chose the method he did, but it's still hard to swallow losing a loved one or friend in this way.
I can see the hurt he left behind in your writing - he's still traveling the world. Just in a healthier, less debilitating frame. Your work is well written and an easy read. No suggestions for edit or change. Thank you for sharing this personal, yet very eye-opening read.

I love the poem in so many ways. First the message, then the quick answers that delay the reality and cover up your feelings. "MOre edamane, More rice" anything to distract what is truly happening. This is a beautifully written, reality-based, avoidance of the truth until you not avoid it anymore. Very well written.

Hi there, what can I say. This is a very poignant poem that has left a deep impression. I truly believe it's anybodies prerogative to chose over ones own life. I can see what the impact must have been though. All the best. Ulla:)))

Yet another tear from reading work on these pages. This is shattering, yet beautiful. You have touched on a subject that is taboo in many circles, yet is a necessary one to keep in active discussion. I am not a proponent of euthanasia. But. Too many suffer. Period. And I can empathize with them. Thank you for sharing this one.

We all have choices and some are harder to make than others. The emotion expressed in this poem is truly a five star rating. This rating is also expressed in the flow of the verses, lines, and plot. Although the other decides to end his/her life, we are left with the emptiness of their being around us. We do our best to understand where they are coming from and need to grant him/her the freedom they need to make that choice. Thank you for sharing. These stories/poems help one relate to the needs of every human person, including the mentally ill.

In my opinion, while a sad commentary in verse regarding a personal loss of a beloved friend, it belies tragedy in the acceptance of one's mortality, its choice and right to manipulate consequence. I found the distinctive rhythm and rhyme an easy and mesmerizing read...Eve
