Oh man, if EVER I wished I still had a blasted six, it's now! I know, I know, you're going to say it doesn't mean a hill of beans to you, but Craig, it does to me because this poem should be on the front page, where it gets the MOST EXPOSURE. I'm sorry I'm such a spendthrift with those darn things - even sorrier we don't get more allotted to us!!!!!!!!!

Sublime!!!!!!!**********************************************!!!!!!!!

This is how I envision things working out in the future. Mankind will eventually kill itself off by using up all the resources available. The USA will go first because we'll all have shot each other before much longer.

"To raccommode the balance, mankind died;
the mother shrugged, and took it in her stride."

The mother shrugged and the hapless humans fell into a yawning pit and crushed into a bitter paste. The whales and dolphins swished their tales and swam off to a better future :)

Carol
P.S. There's also a version with giant ants, but we'll save that for another day.

    When I was a kid I worried that giant ants were going to take over the Earth - I think it was from a dream I had. Go figure!

That could well be. And all that may remain are the weeds we can't get out of the garden, right? The horsetail will survive along with the fernbrake all those living fossils.
The word, raccommode, seems to be a direct borrowing from French.

This is a perfectly written sonnet, with fine iambic pentameter and rhyme. Pity that humanoids took absolutely zero interest in the damage they were causing . Thank goodness Mother Earth did what she needed to do to protect herself from the ravages of heartless mankind.

It really is so bizarre that people don't treat the planet with any respect or tend to its tidiness and yet keep their own houses pristine clean. It's a real blind spot and you know what happens in the blind spot.

Great job, Craig. This poem works best without artwork in my opinion.

    Thanks very much, Gloria. Other people's houses are pristine clean? Remind me to have stern words to the staff! :) Most grateful - Craig

Hi, Craig,

Nice job with this, I enjoyed

and longed to feel the peace that death would bring.
(Personification of Earth in this set of the poem starts the tone as one might for a human, building a foundation towards encouraging empathy)

and used her up with no thought or concern.
(I enjoyed the reflective nature on the constant for-granted that occurs in regards to the precious relationship humanity has for it's home, I thought of the book, the giving tree ...

To raccommode the balance, mankind died;
(sad that it would have to come to the extremes, that we can't find harmony as a species, that which makes us formidable in our environment doesn't keep humanity from chopping off it's nose despite it's face and then blaming everyone-but that when they can't smell. There are a lot of things that hurt my brain.)

If earth be our mother, then Entropy our father, and ungrateful-impatience our middle name.

Hi, Craig;

I always challenge myself to see if I can pick out the new word. This one really stuck out, but you did it justice. A rather sad poem, but we all die, and some of us will not be mourned as much as others,

I wish I had a sixth star for this one--so my virtual six. This is so beautifully put--utilizing Mother Earth as the dying woman. Your words are heartfelt, and brought tears to my eyes--meaning this is a great piece. I also enjoyed reading your author notes, and look forward to more of your work. Bravo!

A very well-written poem about the dying mother earth. There is nothing that can break a mother's heart more than the knowledge that she dies because of her children that killed her slowly with their bad behavior.

I commend you on your relentlessness
Hi Craig
I phase in and out these days.
I hope and wish your pointed arrows
have more exposure than fanstory.
Now trump declaring world war three.
Troubling times,
I hope their stupidity prevents them from blasting mama out of existence.
well spoken. :-))Z.

    I do occasionally lapse into less maudlin musings lol

    Re Trump - I wonder if all the "genius" claims might begin to back off a bit now the much anticipated meeting of the non-minds is a non-eventuality. Surprise!

    Thanks, Z. Good to hear from you.
