I applaud your imagination in creating this very credible story. I relished seeing the description of the postures of the two members of the confrontation and suspected Benjamin had thrown some other fruit or vegetable! Many kudos for winning the contest- Joan

Thanks Joan. This is actually a true story of my son who always kept me on my toes. He now had 8 children of his own and I hope they all have the fun that I had as I'm sure they push his limits.

Thank you for confirming this is a true story. Eight button-pushers--I could barely manage one, who is still a bachelor at forty-one! Big smiles- Joan

I liked the story. It was cute and analytical. Like how you ended it though I wish it had been longer I did like the way it all turned out.

I have now read this piece twice, and the enrapturing tale of the vegetable mishap was beautiful.
How quaint and inspiring to have such an amazing trust within your child...and the innocence of the truth.
I thought it quite magical in the innocence of the truth...thanks for sharing

What a fun story!
1) commas needed here - "...find Benjie and his 4th grade teacher(,) Miss Adams(,)...
2) "...throwing green bean(s)..." typo - the "s" is missing
3) When using a hyphen between clauses, it's a double one, like this: --
I knew it! (And I'm grinning -- smart kid.) Good luck in the contest.

Well written story and a good entry for the contest . Wishing you luck with your entry. That line where it is asked , "what were you throwing," is cool and made me chuckle. Thanks for sharing.

What a nice story! I enjoyed reading it. It is so true, we know our children's weaknesses and strength and when they are lying or telling the truth. Never doubt them, but give them the benefit of the doubt.
Thank you for sharing a good memory and you are a mother after my own heart - placing a 'curse' on him so that his children w/be just like him (I did the same thing). :)
Well done and best of luck in the contest!

Ha ha, I love this! Kids are just so literal sometimes. No, he was NOT throwing green beans - certainly not. Carrots are a whole matter unto themselves. So, are his kids like him? I hope they are - smart and cute, and with a mind of their own. Great story, it put a smile on my face :))

Ha, this is a really cute story. Of course Benji was telling the truth, sort of, which is what makes this true story such a hoot. Very well written and did he manage to have children just like him?
Best wishes to you in the contest with this delight.

This is awesome. It brought back memories of my own experiences with my 2 sons. Made me smile. Thank you! Yes, believe your child - but read between the lines! Wishing you the best in the contest.

What a great illustration of that impeccable sense of honesty that some children develop early. Kudos for mama, who found a way to mine the "real" truth, and to the author who repeated the tale. Good luck in the contest!
