This sounds good read aloud. Bouncy beat.

Important, relevant subject.

What a great word! You used it well.

If speaking Slurvian's your thing,
you're too right wing.

HA HA great opening!

Optional suggestion:

You think yourself the voice of God,(;)
that's really odd.

Aptly said:

Have your own say,
to get your way.

Love the closing message! Well voiced, but slightly awkward in flow and punctuation:

The test of our humanity
is, all are free
and equal, too;
including you.

Optional alternatives:

The test of our humanity
is: all are free
and equal too,
including you.

OR

The test of our humanity
is all are free
(and equal, too),
including you.

OR

The test of our humanity
is--all are free
and equal, too;
including you.

Or any combination thereof!

Warmly,
rd

A great minute poem about the gobbledegook that some of these guys spruke. Great word, never heard this one before, but you've used it well in this one Craig. Good luck in the contest,
cheers,
valda

I call it bafflegab, and I did so before I ever knew the word already existed. (LOL) This is a great minute poem - took me a minute to read it. :)) Best of luck in the contest. (I love the new word.)

Ha! That is a great word too, although for some reason I can't quite identify, I'm really taken with "Slurvian". Thanks for the kind words and good wishes!

I cannot stand this guy. Let's just get that out of the way. Excellent use of the word slurvian, which is a new one to me. Lots of that going around in the good ole USA these days. Great minute poem, Craig.

Good one. There are many celebrities and politicians and leaders who think they are speaking with the authority of God on their side. But if they were on God's side, they would honor other humans created in His image.

I wonder if the slurvian isn't more a reference to the physical act of slurred speech instead of speaking nonsense?

Am always impressed with the variety of poems you are creating for each new word!

Originally, it was. It was devised as a description of the way native New Yorkers slurred their words together. But the meaning has subsequently broadened to just mean "incoherent" or "unintelligible". Well spotted :)

The test of our humanity
is, all are free <-- Delete comma. It divides subject and predicate, a big NO-NO.

One-sided view. I'm a libertarian, which means I favor SMALL govt, FEW regulations and laws, and limited interference by govt in our lives. I am not conservative in other ways, yet still I resent the implication that all conservatives speak nonsense. I could say all liberals speak nonsense. Neither is true. Avoid grouping ALL people. That's a big mistake society makes today.

A libertarian you might be, but a logician you're not :) Even if I had said all rubbish is spoken by those of a right-wing bent (which I didn't, even though it would be around 90% true), that is not equivalent to saying all conservatives speak rubbish.

"Nearly all rapists are men" vs "nearly all men are rapists", there's a difference.

The majority of those who spruik rubbish - climate change deniers, holocaust deniers, whacky conspiracy theorists, etc are far right-wing. Pointing that out doesn't tar all conservatives with the same brush. Some are quite normal people in spite of their political inadequacies. Like you, I don't fit neatly into either camp.
reply by Phyllis Stewart on 18-May-2018
Then take it as I MEANT it, not as I mistakenly said it. As for climate change, I could explain why the earth is not warming significantly and it's all a political stunt to get money and power, but I don't have time. Check the stats. Get the facts. See the charts. Did you know Antarctica is freezing more, NOT thawing. Politicians are good at lying to get money and support for harmful laws, and people are bad at doing their own research. Too many believe talking points by "experts" and govt reps. Sadly, they are allowed to vote.
reply by the author on 18-May-2018
Yes, who gave those imbeciles the right to vote? The sooner they pilot their little boats to the edge of the world and sail right off into space the better, right?
reply by Phyllis Stewart on 18-May-2018
A libertarian you might be, but a logician you're not.

Remember saying that? Well, you're doing the same thing, assuming coincident events proves cause and effect in the case of CO2 and warming. The FACT is that CO2 cannot cause warming. Warming actually increases CO2. Warming is not the the effect of CO2, and CO2 is not the cause of warming. These "believers" are acting on faith, not facts.

I've heard all the claims that CO2 (manmade, no less) is warming the earth, but I've also listened to scientists who say it's bullshit for political purposes (cap and trade means money for some groups). You owe it to your brain to give it some more info, some facts and stats. Google "Lecture against manmade global warming" or something similar until you find one of these disbelieving (aka rational) scientists giving a talk on the topic. His facts will make Gore's hockey stick look like the laughable joke it is. If you do not do this, then you are trusting the media to do your thinking for you, and we all know they are married to liberalism. Journalists are the opposites of scientists due to the ways their brains are constructed. News these days is nothing more than propanganda of the left. DO NO ACCEPT their opinion. Find out for yourself.
reply by Phyllis Stewart on 18-May-2018
Argumentum adsurdum or some Latin thing I long forgot. You don't argue well. Too bad. We cannot discuss this rationally. I gave you suggested reading. I wish you had the balls to read it and learn something not taught by the liberal media. You do know what facts are, so go and find some. You will never get them from the news.

Sigh... As long as you're happy with your "belief" all is well. Life is much easier when you're content. :)
reply by the author on 18-May-2018
It's "argumentum ad absurdum" - but I note you're not let one to let details get in the way of a staunchly held opinion - even if that opinion is contradicted by no less than 97% of climatologists. It must be amazing to be one of the enlightened 3%.

And if you'd like to know the name of the logical fallacy you just employed, it's "ad hominem". Your saying I don't argue well be analogous to Donald Trump calling Albert Einstein stupid.

You also have a tendency to make irrational assumptions, such as that I'm unaware of the "arguments" from the other side. I've read articles and watched videos by climate change deniers - time I will never get back. I've watched Professor Brian Cox destroy a flat-earther by the name of Malcolm Roberts on national TV here.

I see you are, in fact, one of the conspiracy theorists of whom I made mention - I'm so sorry for that, I wasn't aware.

You want to know the definition of stupid? It's someone who appoints a fossil fuel lobbyist, who is FUNDED by the oil, coal and gas industries, who knows ZERO about climatology, to be the head of their Environmental Protection Agency. Now there's a conspiracy for you :)

reply by Phyllis Stewart on 18-May-2018
You actually watched someone defend "flat Earth"? That's sad.

"I see you are, in fact, one of the conspiracy theorists of whom I made mention."

You have no evidence of that. You are just using ad hominem on me. I didn't use it on you, regardless of what you think. The fact is you do not argue well. You insult rather than provide facts. Most liberals are name-callers, so I'm not surprised.

"I'm so sorry for that, I wasn't aware."

You are not a very smart man. But half of all people have IQs lower than 100. I'm so sorry for that. I wasn't aware you were one of them.

Now please go away so I don't have to waste a mute on you. On second thought, I think muting is the only way to get rid of you. Bye.
reply by the author on 18-May-2018
Funny, it was a conservative President who got his panties in a bunch when that fact was pointed out to him.

"Most liberals are name-callers, so I'm not surprised." ROFL - thanks for the best belly laugh I've had in ages.
reply by Phyllis Stewart on 18-May-2018
that opinion is contradicted by no less than 97% of climatologists<-- One more lie you choose to blindly believe. Many on that list are clerks, secretaries, and even NON-believers who have sued to get the papers corrected. To no avail, of course, with so many liberal judges. You didn't know that? Of course not. You only know what the liberal media pours into your head.

I have muted you, so goodbye. Leave me alone or I'll report you to Tom for harrassment.

A very well-written minute poem. Sometimes a person is chosen to be a spokes person but have a speach problem and the audience have difficulty to understand the speaker.

And another mass murder at a high school in Texas today, the shooter 17 years old. And Executive Director of the NRA LaPierre fills his membership with conspiracy theory fears about the evil globalist aliens from outer space overtaking the USA. How can anyone possibly make any kind of sense when people are operating at a visceral level from a foundation of complete fiction?

It is truly heartbreaking and dispiriting at a level of loss of faith in the overall goodness of mankind beyond anything I've ever felt in my life. As long as these so-called leaders promote hate and fear and falsely conflate it to immigration and the loss of the second amendment this will only get worse. UGH. :(((

Anyway an excellent minute poem, Craig in excellent iambic metre and perfect rhyme and I wish you the best in the contest.

Gloria

Hi Craig,

This is another good word for the day. I'm happy to see you employing the Minute Poem format for this one, and as a contest entry :) It fills my heart with happiness to see you use proper meter. I think you have a fine contest entry and I wish you well.

reply by Joy Graham on 18-May-2018
Oh no. I'm referring to the site allowing entries to ignore the strict meter the form calls for. I love it when somebody uses meter anyway.

Hi, Craig;

This is a very interesting entry for the Minute poetry contest. Not only did you manage to incorporate one of your new words, but you made a valid point about the things being said in the world today. A lot of incoherent speeches are televised, and we are left to scratch our heads and wonder...
