Hi, Craig;

As usual, you have used your new word to the best way to describe the tale. I like the word, as it is so much more descriptive than 'an account.'

Well done.

    Some of the words I'm encountering in this little book are quite awful, but I really liked this one. Thanks, Patty for the kind review - Craig

Do I Dare?
by Dawn

I guess this is another world I'd like to know as well.
But man, I really hope it's Heaven, not that awful Hell.
Surprises can be wonderful, but then, some aren't so great...
I hope there's not a toll expected at that pearly gate!
You see, I'm planning to arrive without restrictive clothes -
with no where I can carry coin, I'm burning, I suppose... :(((

See what you inspire? LOL. Fun poem, Craig - well done!

    Oh my, that image brings back thoughts (and jokes) that hadn't crossed my mind since primary school!

    If, after I shuffle off this mortal coil, I find myself standing in front of a set of pearly gates, I know what my first words will be -- "Well, bugger me!" (Sorry for the French, it could have been worse). I just hope no one takes it as a literal invitation.

    Thanks for the fun review, Dawn :)

Hi Craig. Your writes always have something provocative to say. We will all end up dead someday, whether we believe or not. Our body is just a shell for us to experience this incarnation. I do believe in reincarnation and if you are not a believer in God, reincarnation may make sense to you. We continue to return to work on our flaws until we are perfect. Ultimately this re-living does result in finally being at one with the Godhead, though, so I guess even reincarnation has a Catch 22. Marilyn

    Hi Marilyn, I guess "provocative" depends on where you sit. I find the great majority of posts on this site provocative, because of (in my view) quite unwarranted, and when analysed, uncharitable, assumptions and claims they make. That doesn't mean, of course, people aren't entitled to express their opinions. In the end, I guess everyone just relates their thoughts and feelings through the prism of what they accept as truth. Cheers, Craig

    Hi Craig. By provocative, I mean, the ability to make one think. You certainly do that and that is the job of a writer. I am one who is interested in all points of view. None of us really know what we will experience when we "cross over." I often wonder about my ex-hubby who lived with me and passed away in January. Where is he? What is he doing? On-and-on it goes. Wherever he is, I want him to be happy. I am a reincarnation believer, though. I don't think we (I) can necessarily "fix" everything first time out of the gate. Marilyn

Now this is a word I like not only for the sound of it, but also because of its meaning. Periegesis (n.) an account of a journey. Sorry I had to copy and paste that because my sliding review thinger isn't responding at this particular time in history.

Excellent metre and rhyme which is your wont, and a cool story too.

Great work!

Gloria

That's a fun word. Peri means about and egesis is leading so to lead about verbally sounds like a poetic way to retell a journey. Well, you don't have to wait until Heaven to tell your periegesis. We are happy to read where you've been here.

A very well-written poem. We are given this life on earth to enjoy life and make the best of our life, but also we need to take care of our soul who will keep on living after the body cannot continue.

"Periegesis" huh? That sounds like fun. You have included it, as usual in a well-constructed workmanlike poem. It would be nice to have a picture with this!

    For some reason, I seem to like to use the ocean voyage analogy in poems - I think that's about three now, of differing styles and subject matter. Maybe it's because I like cruising? Anyway, I think I might be running out of appropriate images. I suppose I could reuse one. Many thanks :) Craig

You first verse is written in heptameter and the rhymes is very well done. However the second verse needs a bit of tweaking and I bet you know it. LOL

(I know that once my journey's done,)remove

For once my journey's at an end my bones will worm-food make,
and I'm not one to speculate about "the other side";
but if into an afterlife, astonished, I should wake,
my periegesis will tell a tale of one amazing ride!

That is my suggestion to fix the meter. You may not want to and that's okay. Just a suggestion Craig. Nancy

    Hi Nancy,

    I'm confused, in so far as I can see, what I have as is much heptameter as yours... "i KNOW that ONCE my JOURney's DONE, my BONES will WORM-food MAKE" is all the same stresses as your substitute?

    Anyway, I do appreciate the suggestion, and the kind comments :)

    Cheers, Craig

    I thought I was helping. LOL Forgive me please. My intentions were good.

    That's fine, Nancy. I do make mistakes in meter from time to time, and would much prefer to be informed of them so I can fix it. This one just had me scratching my head :) Many thanks, Craig

I will have to get this book. Love today's word and I can see how it would be because peri is the 'start of' I think, 'the beginning' and gesis would be Genesis connection or journey related, maybe?? Good word. You incorporate it into the poem really well, and I think it is a life well lived if you can say this:

At times I've ventured off the course, with this I will concur;
though, given opportunity, there's not much I'd retract.

You have good rhyme and rhythm throughout.

Thanks for the poem, it is one I would recommend. Ana.

Good word, though hard to pronounce. Good use of it in a poem filled with philsophy. Our journey here on Earth certainly does have a lot of twists and turns and is worth writing about, no matter who the author might be.
