What a wonderful metaphor for the human spirit taking flight. One engaged in chasing beauty and flying free. And above all observing and appreciating its God given ability to do so.
Beautifully worded.

Lovely poem about life as a bird - or perhaps the imagination flying free like a bird. I especially liked the line: Lost in the fabled magic of flight
Great use of alliteration and repetition!

Yes, I was certainly sailing along with them, I just love this! A lovely poem for your niece, and all of us. I love to watch our birds. I counted 17 different varieties one day last summer. But nary a bluebird. They're in the area, I wish one would come to my kitchen window. This brings such pleasant thoughts!
Blessings...

Thanks so much for the excellent review and all the encouraging remarks and support. I am glad you enjoyed it, this one was fun to write. If you want bluebirds, you need a big field, and keep the grass cut. they love to come out for the insects near evening. estory

Oh darn. No big field, just a teensy yard, ha ha!

This is a lovely tribute to not only your niece Kaylynn, but to mother nature and all of her glory and bounty.. Birds have always held a certain fascination for me.. it is their birthright to freedom that they are given.. a way to literally and figuratively escape whatever keeps us weighted down, hurts us or haunts us.. My favorite line of yours is "...A life of open air And boundless horizons..."

Thanks for the excellent review and all the wonderful comments supporting this poem. I am glad you enjoyed it and found it so inspiring. I kind of like the ending, its like the birds taking off, and disappearing off in the sky. the distance unfolds in front of them with no limits. estory

A very well-written poem about the birds and their song in the trees early in the morning and during the day. It is indeed joyful to listen to the birds singing their cheerful songs.

Hi estory, I loved this poem about birds, and seen from their point of view. It has the same light feel when you see them flying from branch to branch. It also has great imagery depicting the impossible long flights as the emigrates. It's a very well written free verse and a joy to read. All the best. Ulla:)))

I really love this poem. I'm a bird lover. They are so amazing to watch. This captures the migratory voyage of birds that we really don't know much about but can only imagine. Thanks for sharing about one of God's masterpieces. I especially like your concluding statement: "Feet never quite touching the ground."

Thanks for the excellent review and all your wonderful comments supporting this poem. I am glad you liked it and found it so inspiring. That ending was a favorite of mine, one of the better ones I've come up with, I think, to date. I like it when poems kind of take off for the wild blue yonder and drift off into the sky. estory

This is excellent. Unique. Captures the bird-view POV. Good use of flow and repetition for a sense of migration patterns and wind currents! Excellent insight and phrasing.

One suggestion (optional):

*
Along the long(-)fabled migrations,

Nice phrasing and closing note 9favorite part):

A life of open air
And boundless horizons,

Feet never quite touching the ground

Enjoyed this!

Warmly, rd

PS - I feel like an ellipses after ground might be artistically apt...just a thought!

My favorite line is Fledglings fledged and flown . I like the alliteration in it and like your use of fledged, which I'm not sure I've ever heard. I like word play and use it frequently. You have drawn in with your boundless imagery. We feel as of we have taken wing ourselves and soar through the journey, with memory jogged of past resting places. You have set the pace and purpose with the varying cadences. Very effective. The final verse very effectively summarizes the whole poem. Well written
