A beautiful work that deserved a ribbon in this contest.

Congratulations for placing second in the cinquain contest. I loved this poem.
I especially liked The phrase Memory's cherished nights, which is so original and creative.

I admired your creating a love poem in the form of a cinquain and paying due attention to a substantive title, which is often overlooked. Congratulations on having the ensemble so well recognized in the contest- Joan

Diane,

I always enjoy your beautiful poetry, sweet girl. But I have to admit that in this particular case, I am a bit lost. My small brain isn't capable of wrapping around the whole picture.

I ADORE the ending -- 'when all life needed to make sense was us...'
but I don't get how it relates to the beginning. Why the writer would bother drifting in those old memories, when he/she seems to have all he/she needs NOW?

I'm sure it's just me, but I'm missing the most important part of the poem! And I'm sad about it. I've read many of the other reviews and no one else has mentioned what I'm seeing. I don't know if you'll even understand what I'm saying...

Since this is so subjective, I won't adjust the rating. Thanks!

    Hello Robyn,
Thank you for your excellent rating and thoughtful review...
The narrator is remembering the past... "adrift (reminiscing before she falls asleep, perhaps) of cherished nights with the one she loved/loves...when all that was needed to make sense of life was the two of them...Perhaps there has been a rift in the relationship. Perhaps the loved one is deceased or gone from the narrator's life. But there is now a void as life no longer makes the same kind of sense than it did when all that was needed to do so "was us."
    Hope this helps!

    Hello Joy,
Thank you for your lovely comments and excellent rating and review.
If I hadn't been absent for so long, no one would even know I was here! There was a really long stretch where I didn't write much of anything due to my professional and family responsibilities. So to be unleashed, if you will, is just the most glorious feeling, and I am enjoying writing once again...
    Thank you again!

Hi,
I enjoyed reading your poem. I liked the metaphor "adrift on waves deep..." and "the all life needed to make sense." I wish you good luck in the contest.

Beautiful artwork and Cinquain poem you've written, Diane. This definitely looks like a view where wonderful memories could be made between two people in love.

These indeed are the kind of memories to be cherished. As life goes on, it gets more and more complex, and time for such moments dwindles. You capture the scene and feelings well here with relatively few words. I especially like:

"when all life needed to make sense / was us..."

Lovely, and aptly illustrated.

So much emotion is so few words. Wonderful job Mrs. KT. The image you chose compliments this piece well. I found myself drifting on the waves of lost in a sea of emotion. Well done.

There is a light, dreamy feeling in your words. I can see myself sleeping upon the waves. Excellent poetic form that is vivid and appeals to the senses. Your poem takes the reader to another place.
