Tony, congratulations on the win - spend it wisely!

What I particularly like about your poem (apart from the old story) is your decision to be relatively free of the demands of both meter and rhyme. Both are there as a foundation, but you haven't forced anything into that form, and the demands o the acrostic don't stand out either. Lovely piece.

Steve

Thanks for your review of The Seven-Tined Stag? - quite some time ago. I appreciated the six stars. It was good to get some real cash from this one instead of funny money!

Congratulations on winning the acrostic contest with this awesome entry, Tony. It's a superb acrostic that reads so smooth, the reader has no idea it's following the acrostic format. Your use of excellent enjambment is the key to writing this form (in my humble opinion, anyway!) Congrats on the big win!
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

Hi Tony
I enjoyed reading this mystery mystic tale
of mysterious monsters and ancient fears.
and the susceptible human mind to the unknown.
no wonder so many gods and priests took advantage of that.:-))Z.

Hi, Harry. I wish that there was an easy way of viewing reviews in reverse order! This, along with several others, has been buried beneath an incoming tide caused by my having posted three or four poems in quick succession! Apologies for the delay in responding.

Hi Tony. A fabulous poem, well written and rhymed, as always. Thanks for including the translation of Robert Graves' poem in author's note. I particularly liked these lines within your own poem:
"Shadows confuse the margins of this place,
Enticing those whose will is weak, to stray,
Violating realms where laws of time and space
Extend and then implode like dying stars.
No man returns who heeds the call of fate."
An excellent entry into the contest. Marilyn

I enjoyed your acrostic poem. It sounds like it is dangerous to go hunting in this forest! I like the idea that it is a changeling and the unfolding warnings in the poem.

Hi Tony, If I had a 6 you'd have it, but I'm out. This will take some beating. A well written acrostic. Clever use of the word 'tined'. I love the final stanza. Good Luck in the contest. Regards Dorothy

Stand firm in faith, lest fooled by artifice
That's filled with empty promise of delight.
Avoid this apparition, for it's fey!
Good huntsman, seal your eyes and ears tonight.

A very well-written acrostic poem about the seven-tined stag. We should stand firm and strong in our faith like a tree with roots deeply rooted unmovable in the strongest wind.

Oh wow, this is so clever. I've admired your work before and here it shines again.
'There, in the twilight, stands the seven-tined stag,
Its outline sharp against the close of day,'

... Lovely....

With best wishes, Writeling
