This poem is a good metaphor of how we, humans take on the trials of life. We need to find the pearl of good in the bad to come out of it.

Congratulations of winning the contest, Tony.

Keep writing

Joan

Good luck with your contest entry: I do consider the oyster, love them to death! Tassie has some big oysters, not as good as Sydney rock oysters. I used to live on the Hawkesbury River and boy did we consider the oysters, one at a time of course. Blessings, Kay.

I?m not sure how I?ve managed to get so far behind! I?m woefully late in responding to your well-considered response to my poem, Consider the Oyster!. I appreciated your affirming comments and the six stars. Delicious!

Clams and mussels also produce pearls, but very rare. I heard there are harvested pearl farmers. It's forced pearls from oysters in freshwater and saltwater environments. That would be an interesting trip. I wouldn't mind visiting a farm. Good rhyming. Good visual imagery. Great poem.

I've at last reached the last page in my inbox, to find this very nice review of yours written a month ago in response to my poem "Consider the Oyster". Belatedly, many thanks for it! There are several oyster farms in Australia, producing cultured pearls, but I've never been to one. As you say, it would be an interesting trip. All the best, Tony

Hi Tony, I feel you wrap your words around the guest of this poem to complete the idea of the oyster trying to deal with the invasion of a grain of sand, it's pain, within by wrapping it in Pearl. It's a really sweet poem, Giddy

Hi Tony, you've penned a clever metaphor in a short poem. You've used good word economy and excellent use of poetic sound devices to give the lives good flow. I love the message of creating something beautiful from ugly memories.

-Good image and presentation.
-Syllable count is good.
-In these few syllables you
have written a very insightful
poem that made me stop and think.
-You also end with a good analogy
of the pearls and pain.
-Good luck in the contest, Tony.

I am stunned that this exceptional poem has not garnered more sixes. I can only suggest that short poems are often overlooked. This poem has a very deep message and is beautifully presented. It speaks of self preservation and courage, isolation and resolve; fortitude vs failure.
It speaks of triumph over tragedy and so much more. I loved it, and I hope you win.

I am not at all surprised at the win. It was a no brainer for me. Loved it, Tony.
It didn't need my wishes for luck - but if that helped in any way.

This is a great entry for the short poetry contest. I like the shifting of perspective to that of the oyster's, for whom creating a pearl is a painful process, started by an intruding grain of sand.

I enjoyed the imagery in just a few short lines. I think that the art work you have chosen is very fitting for the poem. I loved the last line. It is what we all need to do!
