Hello!
So peaceful. That is what comes to mind when I think of your "sense of place" and its accompanying short story. My father and I used to enjoy a similar place on the Tittabawassee River in Saginaw, Michigan... I so appreciate the visual imagery that your writing contains...contributing to drawing the reader in as you share with readers why your place on the Fourche La Fave is so special to you. Thank you for sharing...A memorable piece of writing...

What an amazing essay describing a sense of place--the Fourche La Fave. Your vivid descriptions make me feel like I am there. Arresting scenes were your descriptions not only of a country cemetery, but how the present generation paid homage to the people who came before them:

The Hickory trees are over a century old and provide a place for us to spread the tablecloths for the family pot luck dinner on the ground.

My family is from Texas and we used to visit the graves of our ancestors, so I enjoyed reading your account and how you imagined your ancestors to feel to be so honored:

The cemetery wears a hush as relatives go from grave to grave. Not until the task is complete is the food brought out for the feast.

and

The brightly decorated graves smile at us as the family reunion begins. The ancient ones are glad we still assemble.

The graveyard scene opens up to the tranquil fishing scene (with the exception of the combative squirrels). You contemplate the Fourche La Fave flowing away from your sacred land, and you muse:

If only the creek had been content to stay in the mountains.

This is an amazing, brilliant write that relaxed and informed me. Thank you for sharing. I wish you contest success with your spectacular entry.

This speaks the sense of the short story, author is happy and peaceful to be there, the 1920's cemetery, environment, fish, rivers, mountain; well worded, well done. Thank you for sharing this with us. Good luck with the contest. WRITE, INSPIRE MAN CHANGE. DR ALCREATOR

I found this work to be very enjoyable, very nicely presented with excellent photography and the dialog is also excellent, so I cannot recommend anything to improve this work in any way! HIS GRAYNESS; Vance

I think this is a good entry for the 'Sense of Place Short Story' writing prompt.
You've managed to make your story about the Fourche personal to you and your history.
Well done and good luck to you with the competition.
