I WISH I HAD SIX STARS! I love this poem of yours! Ijust relaxed and read it slowly and gently and enjoyed myself. You captured the spirit of the man and his environment so well! I could quote every line. I want to keep an eye on you. Chose me please, after the contest, when you can identify yourself, okay? Please? Outstanding! Tony

The imagery is stunning! I love the descriptive words that paint the picture as well as the rhythm that gives the reader the sounds that co exist in the images portrayed. The repeated lines between each stanza returns the reader to the viewer as relaying the characters tone, setting and time. The fact that he is invisible to everyone else around. Poignant! Enjoyed very much!

I think this is a wonderful rich character study in free verse form, with interesting descriptive language that paints a picture in the minds eye. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations in winning the free verse contest. I enjoyed your work here and the details, the faded jeans, the jet black hair...it takes the reader to the midst of the adventure.

I was just about to pay homage to this as my ideas of a winner when reached the bottom and saw your rosette. Fantastic imagery and nostalgia with this. Brings the innocence of life into projection, the simplest of things that we find are now worth their weight in gold, as we are older and would have them again against a million.
Bravo.
My best wishes.

Sigh! Your well penned reflection captures my memories of growing up in the 1940s and 50s in the south. Couldn't wait to escape post depression poverty. Now just days before my 78th birthday how I long to go back to those riches. Congratulations on the well deserved win.

Nicely done. Rhythm through repetition. Rocking, watching, swatting. Maybe the only problem I have with it is the last word, "reminiscing." I see how it fits but it also seems a bit out of place. But, that's minor.
Nice poem.
Thanks

Jenin you certainly do take me back to my childhood days every little detail even to the sweat between the little brown breast when we wanted training bras. I love it every detail even the porch reminds me of when I was a little girl. A beautiful story written in poem form.I love it very authentic

In my opinion, an exceptional free verse poem, beautifully and realistically expressed, in the inimitable style of the poetry master, Walt Whitman - a winning entry in the contest in every way and a winner in an enjoyable read...

Hi Linda. I am thrilled that you enjoyed my poem. If I was clever enough to transfer music from you tube to accompany my poem, they would be "Summertime" and "Walk on the wild side" but I can't do tnat. Thank you, my friend. Love and hugs Jen. X
