A tale as old as time, love ... that fickle beast ... not always being bidirectional. There's something that draws to that tragedy of being the holder of the bag in situations like this, strong turns of phrases. Makes me think of a song I like, the essence of the theme.

"I'm wide awake, she's no trouble sleeping, cause when a heart breaks... no it don't break even."

I like the theme of the word, utilized via trying to buy back a pignoratitious heart.

Thanks very much for the understanding review, Turtle. Now if only Nicole Kidman would return my phone calls...

Just kidding, I don't really have a thing for Nicole ;-)

You do set yourself a challenge don't you and acrostic and a sonnet no less and a well done sonnet with a broken hearted love. Love the final line - show pity, love, and send it back to me.
Very nicely done,
cheers

Thanks again, Valda. I don't think I realised when I started how many just plain weird words there would be :) Cheers, Craig

Craig, This is a very well written acrostic poem you have penned with this new word. You used very good wording that gave very good information as to what that word meant. Nice colors you chose! Blessings, Teri

Sigh, so romantic. Who said men can't be romantic? Was there anyone that said that ever other than moi?

What a delightful poem how nice that it was turned into the pawn shop. lol

Great job, Craig. A nice variety of poems coming from your quarter.

Hey, not only can I be romantic on demand, I can feign sincerity as well as the next guy ;-)

I might have to blame someone who sucked me into regularly reading (and enjoying) their Victorian romance novel instalments for this one. I'm off now, I just have time to squeeze in my soy milk latte before I'm off to the mind, body, spirit festival :)

    Thanks so much, Gloria.

Good one! What terrific lines:

I tried to find my heart and buy it back
Only to find the store already closed

Poor Craig. She has your heart and is not giving it back. Maybe she wants to sell it. That means it must be worth something, so don't give up. :)

Maybe she wants to serve it with some fava beans and a nice cianti? hehe

I forgot to mention this isn't autobiographical.

    Many thanks Phyllis,

A very well-written acrostic sonnet about the word pignoratitious. It is hardly ever that we get our heart back in one piece or even back at all when we give it too quickly to the wrong person.

This is a charming poem. I wonder if the feature word is pronounced without the hard'g' sound? Anyway, I find that this reminds me of the many loves of childhood and adolescence.

I'm thinking yes, but I haven't heard it, so that's just a guess. Many thanks, Craig

Wow, that's quite a word. It's challenging just to pronounce it properly lol! I'm not sure if I'll commit to find ways to use it in my own sentences.

I love that you're employing the acrostic poetry form quite often. It seems an excellent way to showcase the word of the day.

You have nice iambic pentameter in each line. Just a few spots that I thought might be forced like lines 3, 8, 12. May I suggest:

Line 3: Glossed over thoughts of freedom from my mind

Line 8: checkmate doesn't sit right with me, but I can't think of anything better

Line 12: Outdone to find the store already closed
or Outclassed to find the store already closed.

I also like your aabb rhyme scheme.

Well done!

Joy xx

Hi Joy, thanks for the kind words, and also for the suggestions. I agree that mertrically, your suggestions flow better than what I have. I'm just not sure the meaning matches my intention as well. Food for thought, I'll definitely work on it. Cheers, Craig

No worries. You are in the driver seat for your own poetry.

I did revisit the "checkmate" line, as I also wasn't totally happy with it. In the end, I changed the early part of the line, not the word itself. I hope it's a change for the better. Cheers :)

I like your word of the day and the way you used it as an Acrostic to tell a story of pignoratitious.
Nicely done.
Thank you for sharing these fun exercises with us. I like learning of these new words and seeing them used in such an artistic way.

Oh, this is sweet, Craig. To finally want to fully give one's love to another, only to find out that they are already betrothed, is sad. "Pignoratitious" is a new word for this reader. I'm glad that it's synonymns (pawned and pledged) also start with the letter 'p'. That makes it a littler easier to remember this word.

I like the way that you build up anticipation and excitement of a new love in the first half of your poem. Excellent job on this Acrostic poem to convey the meaning of "pignoratitious". That is a mouthful. :) Thanks for sharing another new word. ~~ Connie

It certainly is a mouthful - I took one look at it, and thought "acrostic", so I wouldn't have to work it into the body lol

I appreciate every thoughtful review, Connie. Many thanks - Craig
