Tony,

Your writing is always flawless, This tugs at the heartstrings. The march of time appears to progress in regression instead of the other way around.. a fact of life.
Sadly, but beautifully you have captured the essence of living in this exquisite work..

Very nicely put. The artwork is lovely and suited for this piece. I notice you rhyme in the way that you speak. Very clever, my friend. You say a lot about the loss of hearing and how you will still remember the blackbird's song. It is like sight. I will remember the sight of a beautiful sunrise even when my eyes go bad. You talk about the jumble of fears as your heartstrings grow cold. This is very touching and poignant. As we grow older we try to face our fears. As we journey alone we shall miss the things we used to take for granted. But no more. We know that we will miss the sounds and sights, as well as feelings, as we grow older. This is definitely worth a sixer, my friend. I can relate to how you feel. Thanks for putting into a rhymed poem what so many of us feel inside.
Take care, Jesse

I can easily relate to the Speaker here as I, too, am hearing impaired and often wonder if I TRULY hear the birdsong or just remember it from years past. I also relate to his "jumble of fears" as he ages. Isn't this what we poets hope for--to reach others like ourselves who understand? Rod

A very well-written short poem about the blackbird who flies away. Although the physical hearing is gone we still hear the song echoes in our mind.

The blackbird's song is a memory. It is there amidst many other things and people we remember as we age. Aging is something we all must face as well as death and we make those journeys alone. I have, and I miss all my dears. All those my age are gone and only the memories remain.
Well done Tony

Goodness, this doesn't sound like you. It's sad. 'and I journey alone' because the hearing is gone? The memories are stored in our mind until time and age take those, too.

This poem flows well and I hear good big of assonance in it, along with those three rhyming words.

Hello!
Oh my goodness! Your offering is incredibly sad...especially the last line. I am hoping that your offering is not biographical! My favorite lines, and the ones that resonates with me personally, are as follows:
Though the blackbird is flown
and my hearing is gone
I still hear the song,

Poignant, yet beautiful, imagery...

I have a lot of close family members in various stages of old age, so this poem is something I can relate to. I wish there was some way to slow down the aging process, but I guess it hits us all in due time whether we're ready or not. Yikes!

Yes, it's sad to see those who were once so vibrant, gradually retire into themselves as their faculties deteriorate.

AGing may take our senses but our memory still holds the things that we can relate to over and over. Nicely done, sad but still true

Thanks, Barb. Yes, age isn't so bad so long as one still has one's memories.
