A beautiful sonnet that encapsulated the sadness of a love gone wrong. Not dramatic, but touching in it's impact. You can feel the loneliness in her soul. Well done.

A good modern day Shakespearean sonnet. No it does not have the flair of the Elizabethan language in which I like to see sonnets written, but it has a natural depth and feel of a modern day write, with all the aspects of longing and deep emotion, then of course the inclusion of the main title ....Starry Skies which brings in the elements of nature, beautifully.

A nice write.
Good luck with this, Janet.
My best wishes.
RG

Hello Jmf4119,
Nice piece of General Poetry in the form of 'Sonnet' meeting the desired norms and beautifully depicting its theme!
Impressive and matching the theme phraseology.
Smooth and enchanting flow throughout from the beginning to the end with lovely rhyming scheme and lively imagery.
An Emotional Love presented transparently; the last two lines are particularly noteworthy.
Best of Luck!

The first New Year;
Following your death.
Dreams of you warms my heart.
Morning Sun reflect your side of the bed empty.

well, that's a relief. that's the way words will do - they have a life of their own, sometimes. I've had many a story sort of take off on its own. At any rate, it's a lovey poem, good meter, sad message.
Hope you're not on the coast in the path of the "bomb cyclone."

Thank you Katherine for your thoughtful and encouraging review. We are inland so we missed the "bomb cyclone" but the cold has been brutal here in western NC. Hope you are staying warm.

Do you think "it's better to have love and lost, than to have never loved at all"? There have been three women I have loved in my seventy years and I'm still with the third. I wish things could have been different in my life but in reality, I know that I don't think you really could change the past. I appreciate that you are not bitter and you still remember the good parts of your relationship. I enjoyed your poem and was moved by it. Best wishes.

Thank you Victor for your thoughtful and encouraging review. It's definitely better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. That said, it doesn't always come without pain.

You are most welcome, Janet. My experience, there's usually pain involved with love... but again, like you said it's worth it.

A bittersweet poem. Lovely memories blended with a harsh reality. You raise some questions. Is he dead? Did he walk out? Only you know, but I wonder. What's the answer?
