If I were one of the older cats, I'd most certainly not want to discuss the subject either. This was a nice little tribute to your foundling and I really enjoyed reading it. It certainly made me laugh, especially when I realised who the little monster actually is!

Oh, he's a funny guy and loves to pull pranks on we who live here. ~ maybe you meant to write it that way on purpose, but grammatically you "pull pranks on us" not on "we"

The older cats watch Skeezix with disdain but tolerate hem(him) because he is a baby.

Happy 2018!

I've cared for a series a feral cats over the years. I've never found one young and trusting enough to bring inside. But I feed them regularly, and they reward me by bringing their friends to my all-day buffet.

I can imagine what a joy it is to have this bundle of mischief in your home.

Very compelling story.

Best of luck.

Peace, Lee

Thank you. Almost any kitten will respond to love and good care. I now have seven house cats and all were abandoned along our road.

Alas, I rarely see a true kitten. The cats that come to my door are too wary to be touched. Still I forge relationships. Enough that they trust me enough to bring other strays to my buffet.

Dogs and cats make the best pets, but their personalities are as different as day and night. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very interesting read.

Thank you. Each animal has its own unique personality. It is what makes them so much fun.

A very well-written poem about a new kitten in the house, always up to some mischief knowingly or unknowingly. But the little monsters stay loveable.

A monster dwells within our house. Strange noises echo in the night; it sounds as if a herd of horses is galloping up and down the stairway and across the upstairs floor. There is a thumping and bumping under our bed ... They make a spray to deal with those pesky monsters you know. It's called, oddly enough, "Monster Spray", and comes in 14 oz. cans.
You must be very careful when using it, however. If any of the over-spray accidentally gets on another living thing, the consequences can be devastating.

Cats are smart animals and the way Skeezix sucked up to and buttered up your husband is perfect example of just how smart.
Good story. It's always nice to know there are still good folks out there like yourself who are willing to give a poor, defenseless animal a good home. What they give us in return is priceless.

Thank you, Dean. Now you wouldn't want me to use that spray on my little Skeezix would you? LOL

    Oh, no!
It's for monsters and in reality I don't believe that Skeezix is a monster at all.

Hi there,

I enjoyed this piece. It is well written with an engaging tone.

Not a cat fan personally. I shared a house with a friend who had one and it kept leaving shrews and severed rabbit's heads in my slippers and on the stairs... monsters indeed.

Wouldn't like to see them abandoned though. I'll bet the older cats secretly enjoy it...lol

Nice take on the competition.
All the best

Thanks. The cat was just trying to show you he liked you by bringing you food. You mean you didn't appreciate it?

Not a monster, and not a mystery, but a nice story about the effects a new kitten had on an elderly couple and their grownup cats.

If you were to ask me, I'd suggest beginning the story with "I found him while walking down the road one day," and then adding the background info you tell in the notes, and plenty of the newcomer's antics.

But you didn't ask.

Happy New Year to you and your hubby!

I love this. What a cute story about your kitten. The playful thing is clearly up to kitty hi jinx! I liked your descriptions and humor. It was a well-balanced narrative with a great theme. Good job.

Thank you for reading and commenting. I really didn't want a kitten at our age, but what else could I do. We love Skeezix anyway.

So glad you rescued them all, especially little Skeezix. They are very smart and do what they need to do to win over your heart. I've rescued every cat I've ever owned. They just seem to show up every few years.

Same here. We have seven house cats and all were abandoned by our farm at one time or another. Thanks for reading and commenting. Thanks for the catch in my spelling too.

This speaks a story around the cat Skeezix found and rescued, and it is a matter of grace that a cat could save the life of the author as she wishes to live the life of a cat 90 years; I liked the compact and interesting work. DR ALCREATOR

Thank you. It's not that I particularly want to live to be 90, I have to so I can care for the kitten. LOL
