I like the metaphor you use here. Truth is like a river, and I guess it is because you need to find it and follow it wherever it goes. And ignorance is indeed a mountain that needs to be overcome. You have given me food for thought with this. Thanks for sharing and have a great day

Hello michaelcahill, A poem of truth. I especially liked:

ignorance ... a mountain
(You can say that again.)

Great commentary in only 17 syllables. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck. Happy New Year. LateBloomer

I've never thought of it that way. Ignorance is like an impassable mountain, isn't it? Good thing we have that river that seems to find a way around it. Good luck in the contest.

Wow, Michael, this is quite profound, so much so, I wonder if some readers won't get it. Personally, I hope I have it right - truth is dependent upon many things, not the least of which is personal perception, which is ever-changing, with life experience, cultural and environmental influences and so on. Ignorance, on the other hand, is stubborn, refusing to budge, to acknowledge that there might be other 'truths'...

In any event, I loved it!

That was very well put. A lot of us would have a tendency to not tell the truth, which can lead to trouble. Being honest with ourselves and to others can be a blessing. Excellent job. R56ma3

Yes, yes, yes, Michael, no one could have said this better than you. This is an effective use of metaphor as Truth represents a river and ignorance a mountain. And the thing is that rivers can cut through mountains and are not blocked for long.

This is creative and deep wisdom poetry.

Thank you for sharing your response to this writing prompt. I wish you a happy and productive New Year.

Oooohhh...

Very smart, Mikey. And we know what always happens eventually to that mountain when truth is allowed its free course... Very wise piece and a great entry for the contest. Good luck!

a nice poem of wisdom about truth and it's antonym, ignorance, Michael. You capture the topic and your point is well delivered in the allotted 17 syllables. Not easy to do, my friend. The poem is nicely presented too, making for a great submission to this contest.
