This is the kind of short-short story that will appeal to a wide audience, say age 9 and up. I don't remember inventing an imaginary friend, but for a few months I thought fairies and elves might visit a tiny corner of the backyard in my garden. I can see why this won! Nice job.

Lol. So cute! Congratulations on the win and the fun story about a child moving on from that wonderful time of imagination. But the imaginary friend lives on to tell the story!

MGC, I didn't see this entry but I am not surprised you won the flash fiction competition. It is very good with its suspense, sadness and reality all thrown in together. Fantastic and a belated congratulations! ~DD

Aw, sweet, sad as and moving little piece, as one grows leaves what was once a bliss. A new life begins without that special invisible pal that made the world a nice place.

Congratulations on your win! That is a fantastic, well written piece of flash fiction. We all have to let go of our imaginary friends at some time! Evi

Poignant and reflective of so many childhoods. Whether one had an imaginary friend, or some other support, like a special toy, there came a time when the child let go of that item. congratulations on your win and your positive story.

Excellent. Such a fine entry into the contest. Original and humorous. Many kids do have imaginary friends and you have carried the concept to the limit in this unique dribble. Well described and illustrated. Marilyn

I don't think I ever observed the subtle ways a child change while growing. As a mother, this is easy, assuming that you are a mother. They're usually the ones to notice the small things.
